Newly bought home with open floor plan, has lovely hardwood floors except in living room which is carpeted (no hardwood underneath). Wall-to- wall must be removed-as do those valances, but what do we replace the carpet with? Am thinking some sort of ivory or cream ceramic tile, as this might look intentional. (No tile that mimics wood.) Prefer contemporary design, but don't want it to look like a McD's floor. Also, there are two spaces next to FP above the built-ins. Am thinking shelving, but one side will need a frame TV worked into it. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!
a wooden floor would look absolutely amazing here - such a grand living space. If the budget doesn’t allow, nowadays there is great looking click flooring/laminate floors available with a wooden look or even topcoat.
Wood replacement for the wall-to-wall carpeting wouldn't match the surrounding wood floors….
If you could match the original wood floors, would you prefer to do that? Or are you hoping to create a different feel in this area of the home? If you don't mind the cold touch of ceramic tiles, I would suggest going with concrete floors. They are very sleek and contemporary, which you seem to be into! You can always warm things up with rugs on the floor
Matching the original floors would be ideal, but a major and pricey($$$$) undertaking that might still end up looking like floor was patched. I was thinking about Saja Blanco tiles (I like these); or something unique that looks deliberate. These are expensive, but much less so than redoing floors. (On the other hand, clean lines of concrete or similar with a washable rug would be probably be more practical. ) Thanks so much for your help!
good to see that you are happy with the responses in the end
Of course! You can always get some samples of the Saja Blanco tiles and see how that feels in the space before you decide
