Newly bought home with open floor plan, has lovely hardwood floors except in living room which is carpeted (no hardwood underneath). Wall-to- wall must be removed-as do those valances, but what do we replace the carpet with? Am thinking some sort of ivory or cream ceramic tile, as this might look intentional. (No tile that mimics wood.) Prefer contemporary design, but don't want it to look like a McD's floor. Also, there are two spaces next to FP above the built-ins. Am thinking shelving, but one side will need a frame TV worked into it. Any ideas would be very much appreciated!
