I bought this little house! I think it has potential, but I just don't know what to do! I think boho would be a nice direction to go. What do you all think? It's supposed to be a 2 bedroom, 1 bath - but I think it'd be nice to have it more so as a 1 bedroom with an office/library space.
Wow, I love this! The kitchen feels like a little dollhouse to me in the best way ❤️ I think you're off to a great start distinguishing what you want/need to use your space for. If hosting isn't a priority for you but having a set home workspace is, you should use the extra room as an office. I'd list each room in the house and write down what purpose you need that room to serve — then write down how you want it to feel to make the decorating decisions. I also like to take inventory of what furniture I have to see if I want to donate anything or need to purchase anything else to complete the room. You got this!
Congratulations on your new home! It has so much potential, and I love the idea of going for a boho style it'll make the space feel warm, inviting, and full of personality.
For the kitchen, a fresh coat of paint in a warm white or even a soft sage green would instantly brighten things up. Changing the cabinet hardware or adding open shelving could bring in some charm without a full renovation. A vintage or patterned rug could add that boho touch and help define the space.
The living room has such a great feature with that archway! Playing that up with an earthy wall tone, like warm beige or terracotta, could make the space feel more intentional. Layering in some soft textiles, macrame wall hangings, cozy throws, and a mix of vintage and modern furniture would really bring the space to life.
Turning one of the bedrooms into a library/office sounds like a great idea! A cozy reading nook with a daybed or big floor cushions, along with bookshelves and a small desk, would make it a functional and relaxing space. Mixing in natural materials like rattan, wood, and linen will help tie in the boho aesthetic throughout the house.
It’s already a charming home, and with a few small updates, it’s going to be absolutely beautiful! Take your time, have fun with it, and let your personality shine through in the details.
Such a great house! It looks old enough to have wooden floors under the carpet, I hope you are so lucky. The cabinets look original, if they are in good shape keep them. Old wooden cabinets are often better quality than new ones and they so charming. I love the handles, I hope you keep them. As someone else said open shelves could add storage if you need it. I noticed peeling paint on one of the walls (fingers crossed you had a home inspection) that looks like water damage and you should get on it right away.
Good luck with your new home.
I would definitely go with a work space instead of a mostly unused bedroom. My second bedroom is a craft/laundry room.
