Re: Looking for interior design help
First of all, it is a nice sized apartment with floors and walls in great shape. You did good finding this space! A couple of things I would suggest 1. Turn your dining table so that the short side faces that odd opening leading to the kitchen. 2. I would balance that too small opening with matching posters the width and height on each side in a frame the same color as the molding with some black in the posters 3. Two rugs or carpets in a stripe or linear to pattern to ground the dining table and the couch 4. You need additional storage, maybe a simple plywood console table with L-brackets legs or inexpensive bracket legs and baskets underneath to hold blankets and stuff 5. I might move the sofa out to divide the room into two spaces with a rug under the table and one in front of the sofa to divide the space and make it cozier. I might move the TV console or just angle the TV 5. I would purchase enough IKEA paper shades and stick on hooks to create privacy but not block light on the window ( shades are $2.99 each) 6. A square of a bright colored fabric-tablecloth(your accent colors) on an angle on the dining table with a centerpiece bowl or vase 7. The other earlier suggestion on the alcove thingie by the window a hook for your bike
Re: Painting Paneling
I didn't mind the grooves. They're not that obvious when they're painted over.
Re: Painting Paneling
grooves didn’t show that much but ours were hard to cover bc of color.
filling them was just tedious and long but maybe bc we were new at it:))
I am glad we did it but now that paneling is coming back in style, just more colors to select from!
Your room is great !!! A comfy scenery and relaxing:)
Our woodstove saved us tons of electricity and still haven’t used our heaters at 15 degrees:))
Re: Painting Paneling
we also painted our 1970 house of paneling and believe it or not, it was cheaper to just put Sheetrock over it and paint.
Paneling has the grooves so we had to fill in and prime three coats!
We had the Blacksmith Pine color, the darkest espresso you could find with black undertones, a hard dark color to convert:)
I was so lethargic and tired bc too depressed and too dark!! I am so happy we did but again, invest in the 1/4 sheet of sheet rock twice as easy, quicker cheaper and better!!
Re: Painting Paneling
I've painted 4 rooms with paneling in my 1970s ranch house. The most important steps are 1. Clean and lightly sand the surface and 2. Use a bonding primer like Kilz or Gripper. Depending on your particular paneling, you might need 2 coats of both the primer and top coat. Mine came out really well and was a huge improvement. The power of paint!
Re: Bathroom tub question
Free standing tubs look great, but are a pain to clean around and behind. Been there, never again. There is a reason all those cute cast iron tubs got boxed in during the 1930s and were gone by the 1940s.
Plus supplementing the wall tile if you go with the freestanding will be expensive, especially if the tiles are not exactly the same thickness.
Do you have a separate shower stall? If not, adding a shower to your tub, and enclosing the whole area allows you to use a different , coordinating tile right up to the ceiling.
The floor tile is also a problem. But you could choose a coordinating tile and make a rug around the new tub, in plain black, grey, or white. Perhaps with a smaller (one inch) tile as an edging.
Because there is so much missing tile to add, and so much to remove and replace, this would be a good time to replace the entire floor and wall tile. (In my opinion the faux barnwood wall and the arabesque floor do not coordinate, but YMMV.

Re: what to do with purged clothes still in great shape
I have used Trashie for those items that are not sellable but you hate to just throw away- they recycle everything! they will send you a large bag to put it all in and a label to return it to them. they recycle old fabrics and textiles even electrical equipment.
Continues decluttering
three years ago this year, and I started decluttering. I hadn’t thing away for 20 years. So I started my journey of I room to room. I have a three bedroom but the different purposes. During the process I lost a lot of weight I was more active than I was when I was working so I had to go through my clothes I didn’t realize how many clothes I became something that I I am still decluttering clothes because I’ve lost even more weight which is a good thing. I was overweight. I found that I’ve had to declutter each year and I’m still decluttering. I would like for my to be easier to care for clothes to have to worry about and just have peace. I’m feeling good about my progress .
