NYC apartment help
Hi guys! I just moved into an apartment in NYC and feeling a little overwhelmed at the moment, it feels bare and like the furniture does not fit into the space. If anyone has any advice/ tips I would greatly appreciate it.
Stumped on my entryway — help!
Hi everyone! I'm coming to you with a dilemma that has haunted me since I moved into my apartment: my stubborn entryway. It opens up to the living room on one side, and the other leads down a hallway to the rest of the apartment. The problem is that if I want the front door to open up fully, I only have about 12 inches of space left. I've tried putting a bench there for storage, but it ended up feeling cramped. My other issue with this wall is the thermostat being dead center on it
Fresh eyes and any suggestions welcome! I've stared at this wall for longer than I'd like to admit and I'm ready to make some changes
Know who designed this 1970's L.A. sofa?
-Dimensions (79"L x 30"D x 22"H)
-Purchased Melrose Avenue (design district), Los Angeles, 1970s
-Steel cylindrical posts, dark walnut or rosewood rails, sled base, decking is black canvas
-Originally, three independent seat and back cushions (total 6) were covered in linen. Futon is not original to the piece.
Thanks!
AG
Re: Hallway suggestions
Instead of a using tiny entry door mat, I would pick out a carpet tile that picks up the colors of whatever interior design you got going in the next living space and cover the entire hallway.
Re: Who's ready for our Spring Cleaning Cure?
I'm ready for this! We have a new kitchen and it turns out we suck at organizing cabinets. Cabinet and drawer clutter is slowly killing me
Re: Decluttering
I find working on little bits at a time helps me. I don't have much time to work on it and it is overwhelming to think of it as one big job. Start somewhere you KNOW you can declutter so you can start with a win. Maybe clean out the medicine cabinet, disposing of expired meds, makeup and beauty products, along with with things you know you won't use. Or maybe clean out your "tupperware" matching bowls and lids and discarding orphans. Or since you mentioned socks, matching up pairs and tossing out worn and mismatched socks. I think success breeds success, once you start doing things and seeing a difference, it makes you want to do more.
As for organizing, that's more personal. My advice is put things where you would use them and keep like things together. Since you are looking at doing your whole house know that the spot you find for something today might not be its forever home during this process.
Re: See my Mother-In-Laws Pantry Reoganization Post
Hey @Judyjudyjudy! I'm adding the article link here so others can follow along 😊
The first step in organizing is often decluttering, so I'm sure that also helped the process here!
Re: Does anyone have an IKEA SALTSJÖBADEN?
@user4544642 that definitely looks weird and when I look at the site it is definitely not intended - as you can see in their 3D model.. The video is hard to see.
BUT Ikea is famously uniform, so if it's happening with you, it's probably happening with every single sofa like this and should definitely be flagged.
I'm going to email someone I know there right now and see what they say. :).
Re: Help with 1913 rowhouse tiny bathroom reno!
Would you be able to add swing arm curtain rods over your storage, with a nice fabric curtain - almost like artwork. There could be curtain rods on the top and bottom, to add tension to it, keeping in controlled when not in use.
I also love in an old house, but am fortunate to have plenty of storage, but I love my curtains that are on swing rods.
Re: My workspace is a mess, and I’m fixing it. Join me?
I would suggest a shelf above the desk, made of two boards. Keep your files and notebooks on the bottom one. Fasten self-adhesive carpet tiles on the top one so it can serve as a walkway (and a place from which to glare at you) for kitty.
