Help! Rug for back door entry in kitchen with toddler + cats

Hi! This is my first time posting and I just recently became a member, so I hope I’m doing this right

This is our main entryway through the back door, and it opens directly into our kitchen. We have two cats and a toddler, so this area gets a ton of traffic/mess

I’m trying to figure out the best rug setup here and would love any product recommendations! What materials tends to hold up best? Our cats love to scratch just about anything 🥲

You did everything right with the posting, so bravo ☺️ Now, onto your dilemma… Are you thinking you want something more doormat-sized, or do you want it to take up more space? I've used this rug from IKEA before and am always surprised by its sturdiness. I can't speak to it being catproof, but it sure is cute!

For something more heavy-duty, I like this one by Ballard Design. The material is way thicker and you don't have to worry about cleaning it, which might be better for an entryway

Hi @clairity! Ruggable has cat-proof rugs, and they have some pretty good doormats. I don't have a cat, but our Ruggable rugs survived our dog's puppy phase and still look great.

Hi there! I bought 2 of these rugs/indoor doormats from Porte + Hall. One for in front of the back door, and one in front of the kitchen sink. They are non-slip, sturdy and come in a lot of sizes and colors/patterns. They are pretty thin so doors slide easily over them. They have a rubber backing and can be vacuumed, or hosed down for an extra cleaning. We have 2 crazy cats, and these rugs do not budge. Fun fact, their texture tends to collect cat hair so it's not flying all over the bare floor in the kitchen. And I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the ones I bought were made in Italy!

My favorite rugs have all been full-rubber outdoor rugs, mostly found at chains like Home Depot and Lowe's. They never budge. Most have holes in them like chef's mats/anti-fatigue mats but you could put a skinny rug under if you prefer to catch dirt, or go with a solid rubber one from a place like Tractor Supply. They last forever and honestly the holes catch dirt before it can keep coming in, so you can just spot vacuum the dirt out of the rug.

A washable, low-pile Ruggable rug is great, but if you do really want something that will clean your shoes, I also recommend coco coir entrance mats with a rubber backing. I'm going to put the link in right below.

You can get these any size you like, so it could stretch from left to right and give you a really nice big entrance area. They don't cost too much, and it looks like they'll fit below your door. I have two of these at home.
