PLEASE HELP with this awkward spiral stairway.. needs decor and or color BADLY! I’ve been renting for 3 yrs now.. only thinking i would b here for no more than 2 yrs.. but signed another lease and can’t take this tiny Philadelphia studio plain white!!! I’m on a budget but can’t take it anymore!! Thanks so much! Do! Theresa!
LOL
We feel your pain, Theresa.
I suppose it all depends on how much you can change in your apartment without breaking your lease.
The simplest, easiest solution would be a gallery wall.
And of course there is peel-and-stick wallpaper, paint, mirrors, ripping off the carpet, and so on —but, like I said, it all depends on your lease and also your budget. (Though you can do a lot without breaking the bank.)
lights, a hanging pendant would fit nicely with a warm tone. A hanging pendant chandelier should lighten up that whole area, no dark corners. I’m in Canada but I buy from Amazon and Wayfair. Decent prices on lights (check for those sales) and open box sales are even better. Another idea would be to put up a couple of sconces on the wall going downstairs. You could coordinate a sconce or two with your hanging light! Lights on different levels like o suggested can give a warm yet bright light. The sconces that might help could be the rechargeable Lithium Ion battery ones that offer a remote. Hope this helps a bit 😊
Ha — I know about staying in a place longer than you expected to! I actually like this stair, though I guess it's a little hard to use. But it's kinda cool.
I'm assuming in a rental you can't paint, or will have to paint back to white when you do leave. So easiest is to hang art on the walls. You could do a gallery of family photos, or big colorful posters, or fabric hangings, or a mix of things. Maybe you could paint the banister a bright color?
If you did want to paint, I think painting those tall walls would be a big job, but maybe you could paint some kind of border or motif that goes up the wall diagonally above the handrail, or use a pre-made wallpaper border. Or stencils?
Does your lease allow you to paint? That would be the simplest way to bring more color in on a budget! I agree with the comment above about hanging a pendant light with warmer lighting. A big rice paper shade would look amazing and add warmth to the walls. If you can't paint, peel and stick wallpaper is great but it can get expensive. Do you have artwork to create a large gallery wall going down the staircase?
I love this look but it can also make an area feel cramped, so I would consider what feeling you're trying to create in this space before making any moves
Last post here: This is not a real forum. People come and post questions, a lot of us take the time to come here with suggestions and such, and there is never any follow up, nor those people ever post again.
That's all.
Hi @MirandaPriestly: Thanks for taking the time to share this, though I’m really sorry the forum has felt this way to you. I know it can be frustrating when it seems like conversations are one-sided. People do come back to check in when they can, but unlike real-time chats, forums tend to ebb and flow, especially as people pop in during busy seasons of life or when they have home projects. That said, we're always looking for ways to make this space feel more engaging and connected, and we’ve been brainstorming some new initiatives that should help!
If you're open to it, I'd love to DM you and hear more about what would make this space feel better for you. Either way, thank you again for speaking up and I hope you stick around ❤️
Hi @DanielaAraya,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. I guess I am not taking into account that this is a sort of a baby forum, and as such is still subject to the ebbs and flows of baby forums.
It's just frustrating that OPs come here supposedly asking questions and so many folks here, some of whom I have been ATers for much longer than I have, are giving advice out of the kindness of their hearts, and then the OPs go MIA without a care.
I guess it's a case of wait and see.
But again, thank you SO MUCH for being here and listening to people like me. It's people like you who make AT special. ❤️
