Help with this art!

Hi! I was so excited to get this framed piece of needlepoint back (the flamingo). But now that it's back I feel it is too small in this bathroom. I thought it would look great because it is close to the Slim Aarons art in the nearby kitchen (a Palm Springs vibe). What should I do?! Would you repaint the bathroom (one person suggested a light yellow), put a light over it (is that done in a bathroom), put something on either side of it? Sadly, I do NOT have somewhere else to put it. This flamingo was years in the making and it's breaking my heart that my vision is not happening. Open to any and all suggestions.

That's such a cool piece of artwork! What if you painted a large shape behind the artwork to accentuate it? It could even just be a larger "frame" shape in a fun color to make it stand out. I would do something in the orange family since that contrasts with the blue, which looks amazing. If you wanted, you could paint the whole bathroom, but I still think the art will feel like it's floating solo. Maybe this is just phase 1 of the bathroom! Decorating is all about layering and adding things as you go, so you can always start small and add as you find things to complement the space

I like Daniela’s idea of painting a large frame around it, but I would go with green because it take a back seat to the needlework itself, and draw attention to the wonderful art.

Be aware that bathroom humidity is not good for fiber art. But if it has to stay there,. painting the wall it's hanging on one of the colors in the piece.would be fun and dramatic

It's fabric and shouldn't be in a bathroom where you are going to shower. Also it's way too high on the wall. Swap it with the photo on the outside wall.

I'd decide how big you want the hanging art to be as a start, then it can be either reframed with a new mount (suggest a complimentary colour in cloth or card (must be to your taste)). Alternatively you could hang the existing frame on a board finished to your taste (but different to the wall). Incidentally, that picture is not well mounted, the distance from the picture should be identical at the top and sides, and deeper at the bottom of the frame.

This is easy, as others have mentioned. The art doesn’t get to show up well because of the wall color. Simply creating an accent wall will do it.

I agree with you, it does look high! It's just a powder room so I don't have to worry about it the fibers. The Slim Aarons photo is huge so wouldnt' work. I appreciate the comments and this community!

I love the flamingo, and the photo too! They're fun and a little sassy.

I actually like Daniela's idea of painting a large square (or other shape) in a color on the wall behind the flamingo picture. In effect, it would make a larger frame for the picture, so it would look more significant, but it would be easier to do than painting the whole wall, as in the post above (which also looks great!).

The painted square might sound like a weird idea, but I saw an illustration of how it could work in an earlier one of these "advice" posts from Daniela, for someone who was trying to decorate an eating area, and it looks terrific. So scroll back and try to find it.

You could also try lowering the picture on the wall (I also think it is hung too high), and adding color accents from the picture elsewhere in the room (hand towels? other art? accessories?), so that the flamingo isn't the only colorful object in an all-white room.

You could also double- or triple- mat the picture using colors from your picture along with a correctly cut off-white/beige mat and a correspondingly larger frame. The needlework is beautiful and deserves to be shown off. The picture needs to be hung lower. The usual recommendation is to hang it at eye level.
