Need Help with Wallpaper for Bathroom
Expert
I am obsessed with the idea of using wallpaper to elevate my dark (and drab) half bathroom. The walls were painted a deep purple by the previous homeowners and the best way to describe the space is "cave like" due to the color. It's just not my style! After seeing this roundup of the best wallpapered bathroom redos, I'm feeling even more inspired to kick start this project — but I don't know where to start!
Would love some wallpaper brand recommendations that are DIY friendly, as well as any tips you have for someone applying wallpaper for the first time. I have to do a skim coat to smooth the walls, so would love some advice on that, too!
Personally, I'm torn between going with a blue color scheme (it's my favorite color!) or lean into the original color (purple) but in a much lighter shade or just hints of it in the wallpaper's design.
Any help is much appreciated!

I have used rifle paper co. and I can recommend! I think what helped our installation, though, was that we picked a bold pattern that hides the many bumps and bubbles we accidentally left in. I don't really know what your preference for patterns is, but they have a blue colorway of the pattern I used, but I rather like these two blue options, too. (one and two). Or if you want to lean into purple but a bit more refined, try this burgundy one.

I've (successfully) used Tempaper many times throughout our home. I find it moderately easy to apply (with a little patience and a great playlist) and it lasts without damaging the wall or paint when you remove it. I love that they have fun patterns in multiple color options. You can search by blue patterns too! I say go blue, it's always such a mood in the bathroom.

"what is your go-to bathroom color" should be our next poll… I also tend to go blue in mine, @CharliPenn

No comments here except to cheer on Rifle Paper Co. because I love all their patterns!

Hi @StephanieNguyen! Two-time peel-and-stick wallpaperer here. Like @CharliPenn, I'm a big fan of Tempaper, and I used this navy peony wallpaper in my bedroom and my entryway.
(I actually found mine on a discount from Overstock.) I think my best advice is to use a Swiffer or similar to smooth out the top hard-to-reach corners. That, and just dust and clean the walls well so the peel-and-stick actually sticks. I can't wait to see what you pick!!4 -
@SarahEverett this is so smart!

I love Rifle Paper's prints but I've never used their wallpaper. Good to know everyone loves them! I'm a Chasing Paper fan and use them for a lot of my design projects. IMO, the biggest thing is really making sure your walls are clean like @SarahEverett mentioned. Otherwise, make note of any uneven texture before you start. The skim coat is a very smart move!

hi @StephanieNguyen ! I'm not sure if you've looked into Backdrop, but I LOVE so many of their wallcoverings. They have a few that kind of resemble tile, which would be so cute in a bathroom as a kind of faux backsplash. This gray patterned one also feels subtle but a little soothing.
