I think I have overdone plants in my house, in your opinion how many plants per room is too many? I was listening to a podcast about Feng Shui and the host said that 3 plants per room is enough. Thoughts?

Thank you! I agree…I too get a lot have comments on my plants. The plants are definitely an important part of my design concept in my house. Thanks for confirming this for me. I love my plant babies!

Yes totally, I agree undulation is very important with plants. That is something I am trying to work with. Also, making sure the plants are well taken care of and thriving. It hurts me to see a dead plant or a plant that needs some more TLC, so moving them around to find the best space is key.

  • I think it's too many when a questions like "how many is too many" comes up. 😀 I always try to follow 'less is more' when it comes to interior design, including plants. You have lovely plants btw!

I'm definitely in the camp of having as much as you want and can realistically take care of. If you feel like you can handle a lot of plants per room and still have each of them thrive, go for it.

I don't think there's such a thing as "too many" that pertains to pretty much anything/everything. SO LONG as you continue to be able to appropriately care for & appreciate it all.

If you walk into a room and can't see the furniture or decor for the foliage then maybe there are too many plants. However, I think that in that instance, it is possibly just a matter of getting more creative in arranging or distributing to other rooms where light and conditions are suitable. I want more plants but also want varieties that will thrive so must make choices based on lighting and allowable space.

I think this is a silly suggestion. I consider it like someone saying you should have no more than X number of books (or any other object) in each room, .

Why should anyone conform to someone else's ideas about how much 'stuff' anyone should have in their homes?

Well, I will continue to have as many or as few items in my home as I choose, so to comment on the question posed, I have plants in my lounge and kitchen, nowhere else, and without specifically counting them, I'd say there are maybe 20 and 8 respectively.

I don't consider this to be too many at all. I'm able to do everything I want to do in those rooms without the plants hindering my actions, and I'm able to water/look after them all quite easily, in fact, a number of them are in self-watering pots that have clear water chambers, so I just top them up a little when I see the water levels getting low.

  • When I start feeling like there's too many pots (not plants!) I will condense like plants in one pot. Or plants with like requirements. If you give your plants a shower, clean up the pot, a good pruning - they will look and feel better and maybe not seem so cluttered.

I have never heard of these self watering pots. That could be a good options when you have lots of plants and if you travel a lot!@Harmonypuss
