Re-designing my childhood bedroom, NEED IDEAS!!!

My room is pretty messy right now and I have no motivation to clean, so I used an app to render my room into 3D and it's pretty accurate in terms of my layout and the room itself. None of the furniture is accurate but rather used as placeholders for my real furniture, though my real furniture is all white.

If you're looking to render your room onto an app as well, I used 'Room Planner' which, if im not mistaken, is an ios exclusive app. I used the free version, you only have 10% of the furniture available unless you go pro, but it did the job so hey, Im not complaining!

Anyway, I have no specific and detailed ideas in mind, but for a rough idea maybe a more ambient, calm and relaxing atmosphere. Like a minimalist bohemian? earthy?? not sure but i want to incorporate colours like brown and green. Right now its very... white and pink.. (and the random bright blue wall that previous owners decided to add makes me angry whenever I look at it)

I feel like I've outgrown this theme, but a lot of the stuff I own is pink due to said phase, so this will be an interesting project, and a long one.

Heres some note-worthy things:

- My desk has a bookshelf-style attachment that goes halfway up the window on the same wall, this window also has no blinds or curtains and actually blinds me every single morning, pun-intended.

- I dont plan to replace my current furniture, Im 16 and my mum would flip OUT if she noticed I got rid of the stuff she bought me a while back (I will insert pics once i clean up soon). I can consider other stuff like bookshelfs, a couch etc. so reccomend regardless.

- I have BRIGHT pink flower curtains that drape to the floor, theres a sheer double-layer behind it with a rose & plant design which I really like, could possibly repurpose. (Struggled to replace these because I've had them since I was 6 and living internationally, one of the last physical item I have that connects me to that memory.)

- There are vines draping on the wall next to my door, on the ceiling and around my closet.

- I have 2 outlets in my room, one on the blue corner wall right next to my bed and one underneath my desk. Also have led strip lights on the ceiling.

- Will DEFINETLY repaint, so reccomend me some colours that I could possibly try out.

- I dont have 3 posters of death note hanging on my wall.

Thats all for now, I'll be looking at this post for a while throughout the whole project so keep every suggestion coming.

This will take a couple months, so looking forward to this journey of 'revamping kid me.'

Hi Sabeen! This is such a fun project you have on your hands. While it might seem overwhelming, think about how good it will feel once your room is redone, feeling totally like you again! Seeing the real photo examples will help us get a sense of the existing furniture and palette you're working with, but I'd say landing on your new color palette feels like a great first step in this makeover. When I think about bohemian palettes, I actually do envision shades of pink in the mix (more on the terracotta or blush side and less vibrant or hot pink) so I'm really curious to see what shades you are working with and if you're open to including some pink — or if you're just over it entirely. Maybe something like this palette?

That's exactly what I'm looking for!! I actually did want to incorporate some kind of pink in my room, since I feel like it IS me

I've attached what my room currently looks like (somewhat cleaned it.) Ignore the whole makeshift curtain mess going on in the other window, that light kills me every morning and I have yet to find new curtains for both windows so I just havent done anything about it. Looking for suggestions though!!

I also really want to rearrange my room, how would you reccomend I do that? My outlet placement makes it really difficult to have everything looking nice but also functional.

That wall bulging out in the corner also limits a lot of my placement opportunities, its so awkward and I really wish I could get rid of it. Let me know what you think!!

What do you think about a sage green like this for your walls? This would pair nicely with the color of your carpet (I'd even recommend layering a rug overtop of it to brighten the floor up) and lean into that earthy feel you're looking for. I also like that you have the vines hanging around your space and think this would enhance the feel of bringing greenery in

As far as layout goes, I would try to do something like this:

This floor plan isn't to scale, so keep that in mind! But generally speaking, I would move the bed to the other wall under the shorter window. Does that leave you with enough space to move your dresser to the wall opposite it? That would then free up the wall where your bed currently is, which could make a great spot to work from your desk with the natural light — but I'd only suggest doing this if you were able to remove the bookshelf piece from your current desk or change up the desk so the height didn't interfere with the window. If that isn't an option, could you move both the desk and dresser to the wall opposite the bed in this floor plan?

I love that you are 16 and so resourceful! And I like your ideas. I agree that a rug on top of the carpet for layering would be nice, AND it's a way to incorporate the colors you want. For a bohemian vibe, what do you think about a natural material blind, like bamboo, for the windows? We used those back in the hippie days; they don't totally block light, so you would get a filtered effect. I like a terra cotta or a soft green (not too dark) color for the walls. Hey, can you paint your furniture? That's a way to bring in another color: maybe pick three colors in harmonizing tones around which you could work, and choose one of those for the furniture. I'm excited to see what you come up with! Very best of luck you you! (p.s. I am STILL in my pink phase!)

Hello Sabeen,

Your room kind of looks like mine when I was 16, except it was brighter. I do think switching those curtains to a lighter tone will give the illusion of a much larger space. As for the colour theme for walls, I'm imagining an ash grey or baby bluish tone to compliment your white furniture. The pink element can be added to then balance out the neutrals in the form of that blanket (already on your bed), wall decor, or other room accessories like pouffe chairs. I hope I'm making sense. Good luck revamping your room!

I'm proud of you undertaking this endeavor 🤓😎I tried redoing my room decades ago, when I was your age ‼️ I love the previous posters' suggestions, read repainting and color schemes.... plus, adding another rug on the top of the current one.

Plus, I shall look into the "Room Planner" app…

I do like the new floor plan, though I feel having my bed isolated in the middle and far from the wall isnt something desireable, or put it differently I feel too exposed. The wall is kind of like a mental support, so I was thinking I can push my bed to the other wall, that way the other corner is open and Im not wasting any space. Also, the bookshelf attachment is removeable, but I'd have no idea where to put everything that's on there if i did remove it.

I do love the carpet idea and I want suggestions for carpets that I should add to my room. I want a HUGE carpet.

As for the bamboo blinds, I LOVE that idea! I think it would pair even better with some double layered ceiling to floor curtains, it would look absolutely perfect. Definitely adding that to my project list. On that note, I was thinking I could add wood panels to that bump out in the corner to add dimension in my room and also to fill that awkard wall space, what do you think of this?

Oh that's a fun idea adding wood panels to the bump out! Peel and stick wallpaper could be great too. Something to make it feel more intentional
