Help needed - furniture and design ideas please
I’m hitting a wall deciding on a theme/vibe I want to go with for my new place and hoping you all can help with some inspo - things like rug ideas, dining room table styles, aesthetic but functional wardrobes/storage, coffee tables, anything to make it cozy and homey. I will definitely be painting over the green walls with a cool white. Any help is appreciated to get me started!

Hi @sierraanne have you checked out this AT piece on interior design styles? It might help you figure out what aesthetic you like best — then it'll be easier to give you specific inspo.

My first thought when looking at your space is that you have the perfect spot for a built-in dining nook, if that appeals to you! Build in or buy a bench with cushions (you could even have these contain storage) and then add a couple of chairs to the other sides of the table. It looks like there is already some spot lighting on the shelf above… keep us posted on your lovely space.

hi @sierraanne ! i love your space. i think you should start with the shelves above your dining table. they're so great. do you have any favorite artwork or sentimental items you'd like to feature there? then let that guide the color scheme/furniture/decor from there…

What a fun space! I suggest bringing in as much texture as possible to lean into the cozy and homey feel. Add rugs where possible to add warmth and texture. I love Arvin Olano's line for Rugs USA — this one in particular would look so nice with the wood grains you have going on. What if you added some ceiling tracks to hang curtains and hide the closet doors near the dining table? You could actually do that around your bed nook if you wanted more privacy too. Something like this:
I also love the idea of a dining nook! Find some nice benches with cushions and extra storage to give you more space to hold things

Love the space in each area!
Lots of great ideas were offered!
Okay get ready…reverse the bed so that the foot is along the window and the headboard will now act as a room divider.
Hang curtains from the ceiling above on the living room side /behind the headboard. Hang matching drapes on the windows at the new foot of the bed( perhaps dark gray like the couch)
To further create a bedroom nook place large potted plants or large sculptural pieces on the half wall at the entry.
Pull the couch away from the wall at least a foot or two and add an eye catching rug to define the living area.
Open up and then dress up the table with sumptuous linens (use drape panels from a second hand store) for the longer rectangle shape you have now created.
Padded chairs with arms that don’t need to match would make socializing at the table more inviting, and could be moved near the couch when needed. Thinking club chairs-again second hand.
If you are not changing the orange kitchen wall then go orange as a great contrast to the gray couch. Agree about painting the green wall another color. Good luck!2 -
The diningroom chairs IMO are old fashioned and look like picnic chairs you can buy replacement chairs that are sofa-like and comfy. Maybe swivel chairs. You can reposition the table & chairs over into the corner.

Please consider making the "dining" area your bedroom! Hear me out: Is there ANY space that you could use in the kitchen for a small table? Will guests enter through the kitchen door or the other door? I realize that it's further from the kitchen, but the area where the bed is currently located would make a really cute little dining nook; alternatively, I would put a desk there and have it be a mini-office. There is no rule that says you cannot change the layout to suit your needs. Regardless, I do like the idea of the ceiling track for curtains, as this gives privacy. I would go as light with colors as possible, since you don't have much natural light. Add lamps wherever you can, for ambience as well as to bring in more light. Ditto with a few mirrors. Look at garage sales, thrift shops, and online for furniture deals. Soften up the place with rugs, curtains, and soft furnishings. I can't wait to see what you make this space become!

100% agree with Heyjudith about moving the bed to what now seems to be the dinning room. In your pictures the kitchen wall paper looks bright and cheerful, if you like those colors spread the throughout the apartment. Think about rugs, pillows and curtains. Add baskets to the cubby spaces for storage and texture. If it is in your budget replace the table with a round pedestal style and if the space allows add upholstered chairs for more color and comfort. Good luck.
