A Home Office for my Husband
I would like to design this space for my husband who works remotely as a civil engineer. So far, we have just finished his desk. I am thinking adding one long floating shelf on the wall facing the desk for storage and art or should we do multiple shelves? We cannot repaint or rip out the carpet.

i love what you've done with this space so far! i think just one shelf would look great, and this actually reminded me of an IKEA hack we just covered. you can recreate it using the MOSSLANDA picture ledge (i'm not sure how much space you have, but it looks like you'd want to go with the 45.25" size) and installing it upside down. then just add an adhesive light strip to the lip at the bottom, and it looks like custom shelving + doubles as an extra light source! so easy and renter-friendly. good luck!

This is cute! I would say that the number of shelves might also depend on practicality — is he likely to have files and materials to store? Would he need space to set up designs? More shelves might be the way to go there — plus, since you can't repaint, putting up art on multiple shelves will add a little more life to the space.

I agree with Amrita — I like the idea of more shelves. You can place items that will be needed more frequently on the bottom shelf and use the higher shelves for lesser frequented pieces or things that will serve more as decor. Plants, books, artwork, etc! A good use of balancing style and function. Something like this:

Love the ideas and the inspiration! He does not need storage as the drawers themselves are more than adequate so the shelves are mostly for decor.

hi @kaci3164569! what an incredible space — I can't wait to watch it come to life! is there a window behind you? if you wanted to hang a rectangular mirror to reflect the light from behind, that might help to make it feel brighter!
