I don’t really like seeing all my stuff. I’ve acquired a lot of small storage cabinets, mostly IKEA. Stuff is certainly out of sight but far too many cabinets for my small space.

Personally what worked for me is having a dedicated cleaning day (eg Saturday or Sunday). Other things didn't work that well.
Knowing that organizing and decluttering is something that you will need to do anyway, it starts to feel easier with time.

Great question! For me it's definitely a mix of keeping up with regular routines/schedules, finding the right organizers/storage finds for my space (avoid buying things just because!), and trying my best to form quick, easy habits that lead to big differences in my home. For instance, cleaning as I go.
Also, it is worth noting that accepting that my home will never be 100% tidy all of the time — and that's perfectly OK — has made a big impact for me too.

My best tricks:
- Don't buy things. I rarely buy new things for my place, and even then it's usually something I've been needing for a year or more. I refuse to buy something "for now" and will wait until the right item comes along! Same for clothes, kitchen tools etc. If I don't absolutely need it - I don't buy it. I'm honestly a sales persons worst nightmare 😂 No way someone can sell me something I don't need.
- As grandma's embroidery used to say, "A place for everything and everything in it's place." While I don't display those words on my wall, the rule is so so true. Know where everything you own goes and it's much easier to keep tidy. Even when life gets busy and not everything gets put away immediately, when it comes time to clean up, I know where it all goes and nothing gets left out or thrown in a "junk drawer". And on that note, eliminate the junk drawer! Haha.
- Form and Function. I live in a small NYC apartment with only 1 closet. 1! No pantry, no linen closet, no storage closet. So you gotta get smart about your furniture. But that doesn't mean it has to be ugly!! Anytime I look for furniture, it has to fit my style AND serve a second purpose, usually for storage. When you love a piece visually, you're also more likely to use it, than to try and throw things on it/over it to try and hide it which then ends up getting cluttered. I want to show off what I have, and that helps me keep things clutter free.
Hope some of these ideas help!
