A Fond Farewell to Our Forum

Hi everyone — we have some bittersweet news to share. We're closing the Forum at the end of the month.

Two years ago, we opened this space, hoping it would become a place where people who love home could find each other. We've watched strangers help each other redesign rooms, debug IKEA hacks, and talk through decisions that felt way bigger than they probably looked from the outside. Being in these threads with you every day has been one of my favorite parts of this job!

The hard truth is that the daily conversation hasn't grown the way we hoped, and rather than let it quietly fade, we'd rather close it with intention and say a proper thank you. If you want to keep talking (please do!), the comments on our House Tours and Before & Afters are where so much of this same energy already lives.

Thank you for showing up, for being kind to each other, and for making this little corner of the internet feel like something real. If you have questions or just want to share your thoughts, drop them in the comments below ❤️

Well… I feel that the forum was more like an interesting stopover in the journey that is apartment therapy, rather than a fail. We ordered a coffee, chatted, and went on our way. Still together because we're all here… but the need to communicate will find its expression in some other pit. The familiar one, that are the comments…and maybe another one, that is in the future, waiting for us to discover it. So, I'll just say goodbye and we'll meet again! Love to you all

Disappointing as I actually had people help me when I didn't know about something in the article. The forums were moved from the pages where we read the articles which made it much harder to access to comment. I personally think that is why the dwindling of comments.

I actually wrote and said I could not find the article on the forum that I had just read in that day's email.

Probably will unsubscribe.

oh, so sorry to hear this. I felt it was very beneficial - and that perhaps many didn’t realize it was there, or what could be done with it. Thanks for your efforts. The forum, and your moderation will be missed.

Thank you all for your comments. I don't see that we're going to stop community at all. We just feel that trying to build it on the side in the forum wasn't exactly our strongest suit, so we're going back into the comments and going to focus on building up our comments and making them better and more useful.

In addition, we're going to look at taking the concept of design dilemmas that people submit and actually solving them on the front of the site in posts, with the ability for people to chime in and help one another, including our staff. Look out for that. We're not giving up; we're just pivoting and trying some new things.

I think I might have misunderstood: You are going to keep the comment section link at the bottom of the article we read? You are just discontinuing the forums? That I can handle because the articles were difficult to find in the forums.

I like the comments sections because like I wrote before, I have had some people help me which was nice.

Yes, absolutely. We're not doing anything with comments. In fact, we're going to try to beef them up. We have them right now just on house tours and before and afters, which is where 90% of our comments have always been. That allows us to get in and out of them, add to them, and also moderate them best. We're just closing the forum for now.

To me, the forum just felt disjointed from the main page. I prefer the comments section at the bottom of the articles but would also like to see more design dilemmas and advice for those of us who live in tiny apartments looking for advice and inspiration.
