Hello all!
I would love some advice on what to do with an odd living room space. We want seating for at least 4 people, and the only place for the TV is between the two wall openings. The aesthetic of the rest of the house is Scandinavian. Struggling with type of couch and if a sectional is best or a couch and two chairs - and also how to place them in front of the windows and deck doors…. For bonus points, what should I do with the wall under the stairs in the last photo? 😬
Thank you!!
Hi @Jroc — What a beautiful home you have! Those floors are really gorgeous. Before I chime in with my thoughts, could you tell me more about how you intend to use this space? Are you thinking of a living room only with the TV + seating arrangement? What is on the other side of the wall with the fireplace? Where is the front entrance of the house? It will be helpful for you to think through the flow and the walking paths between rooms. Excited to hear more!
We need someone to AI these rooms. Anyone able to do it fast?
my initial thought was L-shaped crunch with the chaise end against the fixed portion of the slider. One of the modular kinds would allow for flexibility and using an armless section as a footrest, family nest, coffee table, or extra seating. The area in the elbow of the stairs doesn’t look like it can be part of the TV watching room due to the angle and travel path. If it really is visually removed, I’d tuck a reading corner there - part of the room but kind of doing its own thing.
Thank you so much, @DanielaAraya! My husband drew a floor plan. Does this help?
Thank you for the great ideas, @nchockeymom!
@Jroc using hubby's floor plan, I drew this which clearly shows I'm not a designer. Just because there are two entrances from living room A to living room B, doesn't mean you need to keep both. Since A has its own sliding doors, put a big plant or something as a visual block that doesn't stop B from using the slider. The ottomans can be moved around and because of the travel path to the stairs, consider a chair that's easily scooted forward for movie night or when guests are there. If you're not watching TV, the ottomans and chair can turn toward the couch to create a nice conversation space. Since the first landing is open to the other side, maybe put a tall landing space - bench for taking off shoes, hanging space for jackets, shelves for lunch boxes - so there isn't a direct line of sight to the couch?
This is awesome. Thank you so much!!
Yes this definitely helps — thank you! I saw what @nchockeymom drew up, and that position of the sectional is what I was envisioning. Something that doesn't obstruct the walkway coming down the stairs or through the kitchen area, but still leaves enough space to use the back sliding doors. For the wall next to the stairs, I would do a big console table and place an oversized mirror (to reflect light from the windows), or just use artwork as the focal point
