My first apartment

I am 76 and in my first apartment after owning 5 houses in 3 states (we built the house in Malibu). It’s confounding to have 50 years of things—mostly valued for sentiment—but some valuable art, and to have to figure out 750 square feet of grey/beige walls and some carpet with the awful grey stained wood floors found everywhere now. I post a photo or two to demonstrate my taste and the space I am working on. Thanks!

Hi @Kbm1949 — I love your style! Your apartment looks like it has some great pieces. Could you help clarify what specifically you'd like help with here? Are you looking to find a way to make all the pieces work in a smaller space? Are you unhappy with the wall color? We'd love to see some more photos to get the full picture. Right now my eyes are bouncing from place to place, so it might help to have a focal point in the living room or try and separate some of the lounge chairs (unless you're going for a more conversational vibe!)

I posted a number of photos to help you see my Mackenzie-Childs filled space (some objects are faux Mackenzie, like the black and white buffalo check curtains I have now on plain black Pottery Barn poles (instead of the awful plastic vertical curtains in every apartment.
Here are some of my concerns: I would like to make a more natural conversation group with the two antique chairs in front of my library wall. Right now one chair and ottoman in print face antique wicker chair aligned with fireplace. Since I have no TV (shocking, I know, but I did not grow up with one), it’s a bit hard to identify a natural focal point for the room. Then there are no definitive boundaries between living/dining/kitchen areas. One photo shows a kitchen window with the Buffalo check curtain in the background, then in the foreground you see an IKEA Billy bookshelf on its side under a long counter where I can display antique pieces from my mother and my grandmother along with cookbooks.
My daughter wants me to remove a 50 year old round coffee table made for us in the Amana Colonies 50 years ago. It’s the only piece from my original living room in early marriage (this would have been our 50th June 21st. Don died June1).
