hello! My partner and I are upgrading our apartment but it’s much smaller than our current place so I’m having trouble visualizing how to lay everything out. The floor plan is attached and the following items are furniture we plan on keeping. Feeling very overwhelmed and would love some inspiration/ ideas for how to make this box feel like a home.
I'm in a similar situation. Working with cutouts of furniture to scale. Lot easier than moving the real furniture. Gives a chance.to.try out ideas.
Very hard to see the room layout /window height & placement from these photos. That tall open bookshelf seems to loom over the room and chop up the wall it's on, I'd move it out of the room entirely into the nook at end of the hall between the bathroom and bedroom (or onto the sloped wall by the entrance. Maybe the closed credenza goes into the spot where that huge bookcase is now and then it's easily accessible when you step into the living room and gives you a full wall to decorate with artwork / paintings / photography. Try tucking the bar cart over in the corner by the kitchen bar counter to keep it out of the way.
I'm not much good with floor plans, but just want to say I really like your green chair! Very cool.
For the LR, a book I read suggested step 1 is to make a conversation area. The conversation area needs:
This way, everyone seated can reach the coffee table without getting up, and everyone can talk to each other with minimal twisting and turning.
Once you have that, you fit in everything else around it — lamps to light the couch or chairs. End tables, if needed. The TV across from the couch. The largest piece of art or a grouping of art pieces on the wall behind the couch. If there's room, a reading nook (comfy chair, side table, lamp) or desk or table and chairs in a corner away from the conversation area. Shelves and cabinets for storage where they fit.
These are just ideas to get the ball rolling — mix and match as you please!
Have fun!
