Any help with organizing a small Brooklyn Bedroom, I am trying to make my resume a sanctuary. I recently had a hip replacement and trying to have a peaceful bedroom.
Thanks
Hi Cheryl! I love the lounge chair you have in your bedroom, and I could totally see that corner becoming a little reading/watching nook for you to really enjoy some R&R. Do you have a closet in this room or are you using the locker and black cubbies for your storage? If it's possible, I'd try and reduce the number of pieces you have taking up floor space to give yourself more room to breathe. Could you get a bedframe that has built-in storage underneath? Or could the bins in your cubbie fit under your bed? Maybe bring in a slim, really tall storage unit that can hold your things without taking up too much room? If you eliminate the black cubbies and mount your TV on the wall, you'd have a clear walkway around your bed. I'd then add an extra large area rug to make it feel really cozy. If you'd like to bring more color into your space, you can change out your curtains for something that contrasts against your white walls. Also, don't forget mood lighting! Floor lamps, table lamps, basically anything to avoid the big overhead light 😉
I like Daniela's ideas, above. You remind me of when my artistic friend came to give me advice on my home, and she pointed to a corner and said, "It would look really nice in here if that corner were empty." The corner had a dining table piled high with stuff, some odd chairs, stuff under the table, the cat's litter box, etc., etc. So I took on that very concrete project: "empty that corner." I got rid of a lot of stuff, including the table, and found new homes for what I kept. It took me a while! But it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
So, back to you — your room will feel more peaceful if you have less stuff on view. Following Daniela's suggestion, could you take on the project of emptying that black storage piece so you could get rid of it? That would certainly open up a lot of floor space in your room. Perhaps you could store some things (in an organized way) in the corner next to that tall red piece of furniture, since that's a contained and somewhat out-of-the way area. Perhaps you could make better use of the night table by the bed (or replace it with a larger one with more drawers or closed cabinets) and put more things inside it. Perhaps the 2 baskets next to your nice lounge chair could be moved or the things inside put into the night table or stored somewhere else so they're not on view on the floor. Perhaps you could hang fewer clothing items on the door.
People I know who had hip replacements have all healed really well and faster than they expected, so I wish you the same good luck! You'll be fine before you know it. Also, good luck with clearing some empty space in your bedroom!
I'd consider reorganizing (go through the stuff & decor and see if there are items you don't like/need anymore).
Then, there are a lot of things you could do. Is mounting the TV an option? Most importantly, don't rush and make the process enjoyable.
