Hello! I am in desperate need of some expertise. I am moving to this 400 SF studio apartment in Brooklyn and would like the space to feel enjoyable to be in. I have pictures of the floor plan and design inspo here. I would like to use a loft bed to free up space, any recommendations there would be lovely. And any suggestions on pieces that reflect the inspo in the pictures would be great! Only other necessity is a space for a small desk and computer. Thank you!
Lofted beds remind me of my first NYC apartment 💛 I got lucky and inherited one that was left by the previous owner, but I know that a lot of big box retailers sell them too: West Elm, Pottery Barn, even Wayfair. They tend to be expensive (I've seen them go for $1500+). I wonder if you could find someone local to build you something simple, or buy something used on FBM to save some money. For other furniture and decor, I'd check out the local shops in Brooklyn — so many good finds! I love Lichen, Renew, Dream Fishing Tackle, Dobbin Street Co-op, Salter House, Humble House, and Horseman Antiques to name a few
hey Daniela, thank you for your suggestions! Excited to check those stores out!
Of course! Also here is one of my favorite BK lofted bed situations from a studio home tour on AT. Some inspiration for you! You could even reach out and see if she would tell you who made hers 😬
Hi Viviana!
Love the space and the inspo. Evidently you like airy, modern spaces but with a lot of textures.
Have you considered a sofa bed instead of a loft bed? My apartment is the same size and has the same layout as yours (only mirrored, the bathroom and kitchen are to the left), and my sofa bed was the best decision I ever made. It completely frees your space during the day, and you don't feel like you're living in a hotel room.
I got a queen-sized Serta model that slides out effortlessly instead of the whole break-your-back thing. I'm sure there are others. My advice on a sofa bed is don't do cheap but don't go crazy.
Hope it helps!
Hey hey!
Thank you for the suggestion! Do you mind commenting the link to the one you have? Happy to hear it works so well for you!
Sure! This is the one I have:

Mind you, I got it on sale, so I paid a lot less for it. It also shows up under different names (and prices) on different stores.
And Home Depot is showing a different Serta model (though with the same sliding mechanism) under the same name, which is confusing. (The site is not letting me post the link, but you can look it up under Serta Grant sofa bed.)
Mine is pretty comfy, both as a sofa and a bed, and you can always add a mattress pad for extra comfort.
I have seen other good-looking sofa beds from other brands, so make sure to shop around if you decide to go that way. Buying it at a store would be ideal, so you can test it. I got lucky with mine, but you never know.
Here is a picture of mine, after a whole year of use (and abuse):
Also, check out daybeds! I have seen some truly beautiful ones. And of course there's Murphy beds…
