Josh clearly put a lot of consideration into his home's decor. I appreciate his use of the olive and sage greens with orange and yellow, some of my favorite colors (and a combo I have in my BR!). I like the gallery wall, but it looks like you can't really sit back on the sofa without your head hitting something. I worry about his grandma's plate in such a vulnerable spot! Overall, his place is cheerful and looks comfy. It was a great idea to install a Murphy bed.
Another vote in favor of leaning into green and murphy bed.
Tell me, is 500 sq ft. "tiny" or just small? It's bigger than my 2-car garage.
Open question: Anyone have a theory about whether, on average, men or women have more stuff to move and stash?
By coincidence, I just returned from a several day trip to Greenpoint - great neighborhood! And also coincidentally, recently visited a friend who had a Murphy bed from Resource Furniture. I had never heard of them, but was impressed by how attractive and functional it was. Might have considered one instead of the sofa bed in my office/guest room. This apartment must have a wonderful view - river, city, sunsets. Very attractive and comfortable set-up.
My apartment is about 530 sf, and I call it small but not tiny. It just doesn't seem tiny to me. However, in some of the past Small/Cool Contests held by AT, they had these categories for entries: Small (751-1,000 square feet), Smaller (501-750 square feet), Tiny (251-500 square feet), and Teeny Tiny (250 square feet or fewer). I think a better name for "Smaller" would be "Very Small," and I suppose that's where my place fits, but apparently 500 sf is considered Tiny according to those old guidelines (they did away with those size brackets for later contests). But it's right on the cusp of Very Small!
I like it a lot. The use of colour, the artwork and the plants save it from being yet another boilerplate mid-century modern flat.
Great
It's funny but actually do usually keep myself to the small/cool definitions of "tiny" and "small" but this one just felt like it would be really tiny if it hadn't been designed so well, if that makes sense! But I do hear the feedback on the adjectives. It's important!
How about “petite”? Better? LOL ….
10/10 use of color and maximizing the space in here!
I like this space, but I wonder where he keeps his clothes. There is a space in the entrance where he can keep jackets and coats, but what about underwear, shirts, pants, etc.?
