Maybe try a taller more minimal set of branches? And if you do two items at the bottom, make sure they're different heights to create more visual interest.
I think a piece of art could be great here as well. Love the holiday-inspired decor and could be great to swap out each holiday/season.
I like the idea of adding some height so it feels more sculptural!
