hi all, I’ve recently moved in to a new appartement. I went from renting to owning, and excited to making the place my own. I want to accentuate the high ceilings and character of the place with some timeless elegance. The hallway needs to have plenty of shoe storage as well as space to hang coats and bags. Let’s have some fun and help me design it?

Congrats on your new place! I like the tall windows that bring light in from outside — such a striking design with the diamond pattern! I think the light fixture is a great way to bring eyes up, but for me the cage around the bulb conflicts with the X pattern on the windows, so I'd replace it with something simple, or curvy, or that has thicker lines, or is a different color, so it looks completely different from the pattern on the windows.

As for storage, I'd say go vertical — use your tall walls! Some random ideas: Maybe you could stack the 2 white cabinets, or buy or build some other kind of storage? Maybe put storage on the side wall — some combo of closed cabinets and wall hooks. For coats and bags, I prefer a row of wall hooks to a coat tree; I think you can store more on them before it looks messy and access stuff more easily. Closed storage looks neater than open, but open makes it easier to access things, only you have to work to keep it uncluttered. A shelf over the radiator is good for mail and keys and a mirror with a cool frame (in a color? metallic? wood?) could look very stylish over the shelf. Backpacks and bags can go on hooks or in large baskets. A bench under the windows could be a place to dump packages or sit to put on boots, and storage could go under the bench.

Congrats on your new place! It’s so exciting to make it truly your own. Your hallway already has so much character with the high ceilings and those gorgeous glass panels. To keep things elegant and functional, maybe a sleek built-in or floor-to-ceiling storage unit could maximize space while keeping it tidy. A statement pendant light could also highlight the height of the room beautifully. For timeless elegance, soft neutrals or deep tones on the walls with some classic hooks and a stylish bench could bring it all together. Can’t wait to see what you do with it!
