New ceiling fan or just new light fixture?

I have a dated ceiling fan with lights in my bedroom. I love using the fan and enjoy the way it lights the room, but I am tired of looking at it. Should I upgrade to a newer one or try a regular light fixture and just by a standalone fan for those times when I need the air?

I'd replace your fixture with something more modern or in line with your style! Check out Wayfair or Vakker Lighting. Having the fan's functionality with the light is nice, especially if you don't mind how it looks. I find standalone fans bothersome, but it's personal preference 😅

I felt the same way about mine so I decided for a change up. Off I go to multiple stores to find the perfect one with a new sense of excitement. To my dismay I couldn't find one that I liked enough to even begin to buying it to take home and replace mine. All of the ones I seen that appealed to me were missing one or more missing components to my liking. They were either too small, too large, the blades weren't to my liming. The colors were all wrong, size wasn't right, the list just kept growing. Finally I called it quits after I got the prices for the fans and the light kits, they were outdated, or I just didn't care for them. With a heavy heart and a wasted day I stopped and seen a friend. She had tried a new DIY project with her fan. So after reading the article, and listening to her delight in the finished product. I gave it a whirl. I took the blades off, cleaned them, painted them a color to accent my bed decor, added some overlay wooden decorations on them, updated all the brackets and nuts, bolts to a polished nickel color. Took the light globes off and I poured a hot acrylic resin over them in the color.I choose. They are heat resisted, no worries about overheating or breaking from the heat to the acrylic. After pouring the acrylic over them a total of 3 times I let them dry for 24 hrs. The next day I couldn't wait to see the finished product! It was absolutely beautiful and everyone made a fuss over my "fan". When I was asked where I got it from I smiled and said" That old thing is the same one". After much debate and keeping my secret to myself for a little bit, I told them what I had done!! They were blown away. So my advice to you is try this if you really don't want to have it replaced, or you really just want to keep it. You won't forget it! Plus every time I turn it on it reminds me how myself and the fan threw our troubles in the wind! The wind from the ceiling fan that is!!!? Pictures will be posted at a later date along with the finished room upon completion! Watch out and wait to see what I do next!

I vote for keeping the fan, though I totally understand being tired of how it looks. A ceiling fan is an extremely useful thing to have in hot weather (we use ours most of the summer and cut down on AC costs). And I do need the ceiling light at times, so I'm glad I have it even though I don't use it much. But, yeah — you lie in bed and look at the fan a lot! So the way it looks matters.

There are cooler-looking modern ceiling fans that are more streamlined, only 3 sculptural blades (I think they don't have lights). You could also keep your current fixture and paint the fan blades (or the whole thing) white to match the ceiling, which makes it less obtrusive. It's still there, but it blends in, which makes a big difference. Or you could do a more elaborate makeover, like the brave person above! Mostly I just ignore it, and in summer I'm really glad I have it.

I live in TX, and fans are a way of life. Easy fixes are to swap out the globes around the bulbs, use different bulbs (there are more interesting ones at the big box stores), and often times the blades have two differents sides to them. The other side may be a different color and/or pattern. If not, paint them or paper them. If you're crafty, you can even shorten the blades.
