Ideal layout for this living room?
Hi,
I am looking for guidance on the ideal layout of this living room. It is 10'9" x 18'0' as shown in the floor plan below. Please ignore the current placement of the couch in the screenshots below, I am just including these pictures to further illustrate the room layout, specifically how the kitchen flows right into the living room area.
I think the current sectional (~105") needs to be downsized by 1-2 feet to not feel cramped in the current space. Which wall does it make sense to be on? The one closer or further to the kitchen? How would you use the rest of the space?
I also know we need a smaller rug, and DEFINITELY a smaller coffee table.

You have some great furniture pieces already. I think the original layout with the full couch all together on the wall close by the kitchen would still work just fine except how do you watch tv? So I suggest that you flip it so the backs of the loveseat and chaise acts as a divider between the living area and the dining area. You could leave the chaise where it is and just flip the loveseat. Either way this makes it seem more open. You could add a colourful and/ or patterned cushion cover to the white toss cushion if you want to jazz it up. The rug could be cut and hemmed, or just cut and duct tape the underside of the cut line to prevent ragged fraying where cut. First cut the larger part by the couch, so that there is a gap for the width of the exit from the kitchen onto the hardwood. The smaller piece of rug that remains can be moved further into the dining area so all the feet of the sideboard sit on it, and centre this rug under the sideboard. Maybe it even fits the area from the kitchen doorway all the way to the far wall with the corner windows, or if too large, trim a bit off to fit. Move your dining table and chairs onto the rug. Add a washable rug under the dining set if spills are a concern, a round patterned or colourful rug would add interest. I agree that the coffee table is too large. Try to locate a set of two or three small tables that can be pushed together or separated as needed. OR: could the coffee table top be given four sturdy legs and turned into a larger dining table. Keep its lovely wood or paint it a soft or interesting colour that is seen in the new round dining area top rug. Then the current small dining table's top could go onto a square lower base painted white so that it the same height as the small side table, then positioned along with the small side table as a two part coffee table effect. Would need a floor lamp for the living room just behind the couch for reading, and the small lamp from the small side table could go onto the sideboard to light up the dining area. Add a large vase and a large bowl onto the sideboard for decor.
