Our new apartment has very a yellow/orange ish floor colors, not much natural light.

We would like to find creative ways to design the living room and dining area in a way that will contradict a bit, but my wife and I are really not that good.

We currently own a sofa (bright gray), and a chaise (brown), but everything else we will be purchasing new / second hand.

We would love to hear ideas / inspirations - see pictures of the apartment now - when we will move there it will be completely empty.

Very cool space! Is your goal to make the space brighter, or would you be open to leaning into a moodier feel? Moody doesn't always need to translate into dark, either! Determining that upfront will help with a lot of your design decisions

Because you're working with so much overhead lighting, I suggest layering as many floor/table lamps and mood lighting as possible. This is what will create a natural warm glow. Overhead lighting has the habit of making a space feel very harsh. As far as the floors go, if you aren't a fan of the yellow/orange vibe, you'll want to neutralize the space by counterbalancing with cooler tones. You'll probably notice the biggest impact by using a cool tone on the walls, but you can also bring in cool-toned furniture. In the dining area, I would totally go for some peel-and-stick floor tiles here. You can find something that feels more like your and your wife's style, and it will create a nice divider between the two areas of the room

Remember not to rush into things! I'm always tempted to go out and decorate my entire space at once when I move in, but it takes time to get to know the feel of your space. Excited to hear how it progresses for you two ☺️
