I'd add some lamps, side table(s), and additional textiles. Find some prints or other artwork that speak to you for the walls! What do the doors lead to? You could add in a bookcase or console table whatever wall that the couch faces but I wouldn't want to block foot traffic.

Welcome welcome! I'd love to see the kitchen in your space — is that where you're standing in this photo?

A few questions to consider: How do you want this area to feel? Do you want to lean into the coziness and darker colors you have, or would you like it to feel more bright? Your desired feeling will impact how you decorate your space 🙂 If it were me, I would start by adding a large area rug in a lighter color to brighten the floor and bring in some floor/table lamps to warm up the lighting situation. Do you like to entertain? Maybe a low coffee table with some floor pillows or poufs to have your friends gather around when they're over

Excited to see where you go with this!

A kitchen photo would help to visualize the entire space. A few thoughts: if the table behind the couch will be used for dining, move it to the wall with the heating register and add chairs or swap it out entirely to save space and use a coffee table for dining etc. This re-arrangement will allow the couch to be moved back a couple of feet, or angled, or possibly moved to the opposite wall if the door swing allows. Play around and see what looks best and gauge traffic flow. Tie the curtains back during the day, even knot each panel pair to let in some light yet retain a smidge of privacy. Plants, a large light area rug, extra seating like a butterfly chair, a light-colored throw on the couch and/or add pattern/texture with a couple of pillows, art, twinkle/fairy lights in plants …Wall-mounted lighting or shelves (IKEA) could save space. A warmer light bulb and cover for the overhead light. Consider hanging a few hooks for jackets etc., a mat for shoes, a landing strip for keys/mail. Please keep us updated- exciting!

I think you should rotate the couch so the back of it runs along the long wall (the non-window wall in the photo above). To me, that would really open up the room, especially if you took this photo from where the kitchen is. I can't wait to see/hear more! 🤩

The sofa on the long wall would be right in front of the heating unit. Not ideal for circulation

You've gotten a lot of good advice but I wanted to add that if you are on a budget, you can sometimes find handmade items at thrift stores like crochet or quilted blankets, pillows etc. That might make it feel homey for you.

Regarding your livingroom. (I didn't see a kitchen). Add some pictures to the walls. The walls could also use some paint, maybe an off white, or soft pink. Or you can color block. One wall one color, the other wall a contrasting color.
