Favorite places to shop for vintage and home decor around NYC?

Hi NY friends! Where do you like to shop for your homes in and around NYC? Any favorite thrift/antique or home goods shops? I live upstate now, but every time I go down to the city I wished I had a list of new (and old) places to shop around because I get overwhelmed by all the options.

It would be fun to crowd-source the ultimate shopping list with you all here. Drop any recs below 😊

I don't have a suggestion for stores in NYC, and I'm sure you know this, but Facebook Marketplace is soo good in NYC. There are always such unique finds for reasonable prices.

Junk in Williamsburg has always been a treasure trove of vintage and antique finds but Facebook Marketplace in NYC is the absolute best!

I love Junk — thanks for the reminder because I haven't been in a while! FBM is the best, but I always run into the issue of not getting to things quick enough since I'm outside the city now 🙃

It depends if you are looking for furniture, household items, etc - some on this list are better than others. This is basically midtown to downtown and pretty walkable but you could use the subway if needed. If you are interested in other areas, I can send recommendations for those places as well - this is where I live and work, so I just know these shops pretty well. Chelsea Flea (Saturdays tend to be better than Sundays), Showplace Antiques + Art Center (across the street on W25 from the Flea - there is a rumor that it is moving Queens soon), City Opera Thrift Shop (WAY west Chelsea by the High Line), Vintage Thrift in Gramercy (closed Saturdays and closes at sundown on Fridays so in the winter, around 5pm?), Housing Works (several locations, each sort of has its own personality as the donations tend to be local), White Trash (mostly furniture but some art and small items, East Village), Restoration Antiques (quite small with limited hours, East Village), Cure Thrift (East Village), Mothership Vintage (closed Mon&Tues? LES), Olde Good Things (mostly furniture and fixtures, Hells Kitchen, UWS location is closing in Nov.) and Furnish Green (Chelsea). Not thrift stores, but these places offer some unique housewares and furniture in some cases: For small household accessories, there are several boutique shops mixed in with the galleries near the Essex Street Market - Top Hat, Bungee Space, November 19 Shop, etc come to mind but many others. McNally Jackson (bookshop) has several locations all over the city now and have small boxes, writing instruments/stationary, other cute items plus they have 2 "Goods for the Study" shops in the WV and SoHo which carry no books, only the ceramics, paper goods, pens, etc. Niconeco Zakkaya is another stationary shop (EV) that I have found towels, small dishes, etc in as well as typical stationary items. A new shop called the Locavore is on 6th Ave in the WV and sells only NYC region-based products but there is a bit of everything like a general store (even snacks if you get hungry!). There are 2 MoMa Design shops - one in SoHo and one across from the main museum - also great for fun household items plus some furniture items. Happy shopping!
