Big couch - tiny space...help!

Hi - I'm new here and so excited to have found you all! I'm moving on June 15th from a large apartment with big rooms (1700 sq ft) to a very small rental space (900 sq ft). I was in a job where I hosted boarding students so I needed a large couch - but my family is just me and my daughter, and I only use one corner of the couch to relax at the end of a long day. Because of my timeline, I'm working on purging which is great, and deciding which furniture comes with me, which isn't so great. I love my 86" Ava sofa from Grandin Road and desperately want to bring it and I'm hoping someone here can figure out how to make it fit! My kitchen and living area is combined and tiny - I'm hoping someone can make a suggestion (n0ne of this is my furniture - its is from the ad) - also - there is a new door that leads to a pantry where the TV is in this picture - so I'm not sure where to put a tv (maybe not in that room and in the bedroom?) Do i lose the couch? I've thought of a "built-in" ikea billy along the wall with an electric fireplace and just 2 comfy reading chairs? I will likely be here for 1.5 years and then hopefully buy/build a small home.

This is definitely a puzzle, but I love that you're thinking through it so carefully. It’s hard to tell from the listing photo, but I’m assuming your current sofa would be too long to fit on the wall where the existing one is? I was going to suggest placing it across from the TV to sort of close off the living area, but if there's now a door there to the pantry, that might not be realistic either

How much do you really love the sofa? If it’s a piece that brings you a ton of comfort and joy, it could be worth looking into short-term storage—especially if you're hoping to buy or build in the next couple years. But I also totally get the desire to start fresh and make the most of this new layout. Sometimes letting go of a piece (even one you love!) makes room for something that suits your current life better. So I’d say: if you can’t part with it, maybe store it for now. And if you can let it go, maybe think of the resale value as a little nest egg to create a cozy setup that works beautifully for this chapter

Also love your idea of a built-in Billy bookcase wall with an electric fireplace and reading chairs! Sounds so cozy

Can you angle the sofa?

I'm assuming the sofa in the photo is the one from Grandin ROad. It's hard to tell from the photos what is in the space where there is a table or how big that wall is. If possible, I would put the table and chairs in the area where the sofa currently is located in the photo. I would float the sofa with it's back to the bedroom door, and put the tv on the wall opposite it where the table is currently. I can't tell if you would still have room for the armchair between the sofa and the tv on the wall with the patio doors. If not, is it possible to move the armchair to the bedroom, or loan it to a family member until you have a larger space?
