Hi Guys,

I think there was a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that made things really difficult for this company. I'm in the same business as 20x200, with an online photo gallery called eyebuyart.com and have a lot of respect for this organization, despite the setbacks (which, yes, were pretty huge).

I think their mission has a ton of integrity. The more people buying and supporting artists the better!

Hi There,

I founded a site called eyebuyart.com with the exact mission of making fine art photography by up-and-coming artists affordable. The work won't always match your couch, nor is it meant to.

The photographers we invite to participate on our site are winners of an international photo competition (that we have a partnership with), and have been vetted by professionals in the field of art and photography; curators from the Corcoran for example, and editors from the British Journal of Photography (the oldest photo magazine in the world).

I love Apartment Therapy, and I read you religiously. I'd love it even more if we could get on these lists one day :)

Thanks!

I can't claim to know what happened with 20x200, but I do think the site, and Jen Bekman deserve a lot of credit for helping put young artists on the map.

I launched a business called www.eyebuyart.com with a similar philosophy back in 2009; to connect online collectors with affordable, fine art photography by rising stars in the art scene. We’ve since shipped work to over 50 countries worldwide, and part of our success has been because of businesses like ours, who are building confidence about what it means to be a collector.

It's hard to find reliable art sites, where you know the work is good, and where the artist is directly benefiting from the sale (particularly in a crowded space like the internet). So despite the struggles that 20x200 and it's buyers have experienced, I still think they deserve a lot of credit.

The more sites like ours, where we are working to make art affordable, in a space where it's fun to look at and easy to buy, the better.

People should buy more art!

I'm just reading the comments here and wanted to add my voice.

I have to admit, I totally lust after the work on this site. It's a great collection, but wanted to tell you about an online fine art photography gallery I launched in 2009 called eyebuyart.com that is much more affordable, and fun to buy (because the artists are emerging and have great potential).

I started this business as a way of connecting art enthusiasts with affordable, fine art photography by rising stars in the art scene.

The work we sell on our site is vetted by high profile jury members in the field of art and photography, and is selected from winners of an international photography competition (that we have a partnership with).

Please check out eyebuyart.com
We appreciate it and our artists do too.

Thank you!

Hi Kim,

I have to add my voice to this article, because I think the more people supporting and buying art from emerging artists, the better.

I started a business in 2009 called eyebuyart.com that connects art collectors with affordable, fine art photography by rising stars in the art scene - and where you can purchase limited edition work for as little as $35.

If you do a google search for art, you're going to wind up with about a gajillion results. That's why this kind of article is great. It's hard to find work that you know is good, and in particular, that has been created by a real artist. My attitude is that the more people buying art online the better, because we're changing the game.

The work we sell on our site is vetted by high profile jury members in the field of art and photography, and is selected from winners of an international photography competition (that we have a partnership with).

We appreciate it and our artists do too.

Top 10: Places to Buy Affordable Art

Hi Maxwell,

If you type "art" into your google browser you're going to end up with about a gajillion results. It's impossible to compete in that field, but what I did in 2009 was launch a site called eyebuyart.com where people could buy art from emerging photographers, just as their careers are starting to take off. The work is vetted by high profile jury members in the field of art and photography, and the artists we choose have won an international photo competition that I have a partnership with.

I feel strongly that people should be able to collect art that is affordable, and that has been created by real artists who are in it for the long haul. It's also a really nice thing to watch an artist's career take off, particularly when their work is hanging on your wall.

So thanks for this list and thanks for encouraging more people to buy art!
Please make sure to have a look at our site. We appreciate it.

Thank you!

Top 10: Affordable Online Art Sources
11/7/13 02:22 PM

Hi Alysha,

Just wanted to chime in here and add another one to this list. I started eyebuyart.com in 2009 to help people collect fine art photographs by emerging stars in the art world. All the work comes from artists who have been chosen by a jury, and whom have won an international photo competition that I have partnered with.

I know there are so many sites out there selling art now, which is why it's even more important to find ones that are really good, where the artist directly benefits from the sale, and where the collector can have confidence in their purchase. So thanks for allowing me to add our name to this article.

Thanks for this great list you've compiled. The more people buying art the merrier!
