I love Lonny but...Lonny needs to upgrade to better web programming and a more consistent interface. The function of their website is really clunky and strange...looks very amateurish and is not easy to use. I was so excited to check out the site and quickly got annoyed and stopped looking around...hope you work it out kids... and best of luck to you. Lonny Magazine Launches New Web Resource |

My first reaction was that this apartment is boring. Then I spent some time really looking at the images and realized it is deceivingly simple. I can appreciate the minimalism and clever use of space...Nice job. Kevin Sharkey's High Over the Hudson House Tour |

Fans of Empiric - who may be looking for a unique treasure - might also appreciate Gold Bug in Pasadena. Empiric is more of a furniture/Design shop with a masculine/scientific edge but they also have great gifts. I LOVE Empiric! Gold Bug is a bit more artsy/goth/curiosity shop (they specialize is well curated gifts, jewelry, art and small accessories). And a third option - in the vein of science inspired curiosity shops is Paxton Gate in S.F., where you can find maps, botanical prints and interesting natural trinkets. Just a few ideas for all you treasure hunters out there looking for precious, unique mementos and goodies! Empiric Studio: Vintage Modern and Industrial Furnishings |

Online design blogs are my #1 inspiration resource. They help me make a plan for a starting point. Then, I take photos of each room in my house- I carry them with me all the time in my bag. Then, if i end up at a furniture store, flea market, garage sale etc etc i can pull out the photos and see if the item i am considering makes sense for the space. This really helps me make decisions. Another safe tip is to shop at places that allow returns...take things home to try and if they don't work just bring them back... New Home Decorating Phobia |

Its really an intuition and a case by case situation. I wish we lived in a world where everyone cleaned up after themselves and was considerate, where we all looked out for one another. aah, that would be nice. I would be the first to jump to help one of my neighbors...I think we should all make it our goal to be pleasant to one another...any involvement beyond that is a personal decision. I'm sure there are different quality fabrics that add to the durability. Sadly, a white couch in any fabric is going to wear poorly and show dirt. But i had a Grey-beige, cement colored micro-fiber couch i bought from the sofa co. Not sure if the quality of their fabric has changed since then but my couch was amazing. I has it for almost ten years, and even after that i was able to sell it - it looked untouched. (And i had a giant cat the whole time.) Super low maintenance, easy clean up...didn't show a thing! OK design snobs..i agree sometimes things may need a rest. But i also think our media sources are to blame. We SEE everything! Objects/styles seem over exposed because there are more mediums to see them on...tv, mags, online etc. We (AP viewers) seek out all these sources for inspiration - we see the same objects repeated all over. We know what is trendy or what seems overdone (whether in home decor or fashion which are often related). Most folks coming to your house will not know either way what is played out or not..so who cares. Just decorate with pieces that speak to you! That said, if decorating is a creative outlet for you, then you will crave some newness here and there...that is part of the creative process (redecorating from time to time) and not everything in your home is a sentimental heirloom so don't be afraid to get rid of things too. I personally rotate things. I keep a stock of fav things in my garage and rotate art or objects in and out as I desire. If I'm feeling more modern i grab my Adler vases and put them on the mantel. If i feel more traditional i may go for the brass candlesticks. And yes, sometimes a few trendy pieces make an appearance. The key is to incorporate trends in YOUR own way. Also i think things become trendy because they resonate for a lot of people. Its sometimes called a collective consciousness...do you think you're the only one who loves (or loved) antlers, zebra rugs, Adler lamps Wearstler patterns, etc etc etc???
