This isn't an either/or to me -- it's a big old NEITHER. I can't stand sleeping with a flat top sheet OR a duvet cover. I grew up with both but have found that top sheets just became a twisted mass in the night and duvets shift around too much in their covers so you end up with either a huge lumpy mass or cover only and no warm duvet! I ditched top sheets in college and more recently dumped all my duvets for quilts. I've found the bed to be much more comfortable now and easier to make and since I make sure to buy all machine washable quilts it's plenty sanitary as well. The quilts just get softer as I wash them over time. I will admit that I do use the top sheet in hotels -- they can't be washing those bedspreads every time -- but it's never very comfortable! This almost brought me to tears -- My grandfather had one and used to take us on fishing trips with it. I haven't thought of it in years. Looking at it I can almost smell that old camper. My mom raised us to never a leave a room empty-handed-- in other words if I'm in the living room headed for the kitchen, I grab all the dirty dishes, glassware, or other items that belong in the kitchen and take them with me. If you do this all the time, when you're ready for a 'big clean' everything is at least close to it's home. Or if you only have a few minutes to spare, you can get at least one room in order pretty speedily. we store records in our fireplace -- but not stacked of course! i was a little wary when my husband first suggested it but we tried it out and i kind of like it now. it certainly looks bit neater than this. I use the iphone for shopping & to-do lists but my favorite way to use it is for wine shopping -- I keep photos of the labels from my favorite wines so that I can easily find them in a store. No need to purchase anything! My dad taugh me this trick: Once you start running a low, lay the tube on a flat surface & press the flat back of the head of your toothbrush onto the end of the tube and smooth the remaining toothpaste toward the cap. Once the end is totally flat, roll the tube up as far as you can and secure with a binder clip. I work full time in an office and my husband works from home where he appears to spend the day taking objects out and scattering them across every available surface -- floors and seating included. He also can't seem to find the wastebin, hamper, or the kitchen sink and generally stays up later than I do so I spend at least 15 minutes in the morning before he gets up tidying up from the previous night and another 20-30 in the evening when I come home. I literally can't relax with too much visual clutter and am wondering if anyone has heard of any therapies that might help me to learn to relax in the midst of the chaos.
