I wish the people in this photograph were my friends they look so funky and eclectic. I like this list. I would add number 11. Dress the Part. don't wear the same clothes everyday like you normally do try wearing different outfits that make you look holiday and then go out and run some errands. It doesn't have to be elf hats and reindeer collars either get creative wear an ugly holiday sweater for a few days and don't be afraid to laugh with others as they laugh at you. Designate a special holiday coat and infuse it with holiday smells and keep the pockets full of candy canes to hand out to onlookers.

How To Start Making Your Own Holiday Traditions Right Now (Even if You're Disorganized, Not-So-Grownup or a Scrooge)

Well it is that time of year again and it doesn't take much to get me for the holiday blahs to start easing there way in to the darkest recess of my soul. The weather is bitter and forboating and I end up spending most of my time struggling to get out of bed every morning. That's when I say to my self "get out of bed you sad sack it doesn't matter if you failed lat year give it another go"! and then I get out my crafting things clear out some of my past failed projects and do my best to make a holiday craft. I saw a nice DYI sock wreath online that I'm going to try. It's pretty simple all you need is old socks, glitter, tinsel, chicken wire and a hot glue gun. The pics I saw were very accessible.

The way I see it if someone is going to impose themselves on you and stay at your flat they should come prepared with their own sleeping bags and toiletries and blowies to sleep on. The holidays are already expensive and stressful so I try and keep it as simple as possible for myself and make sure my guest realize that having me have to worry and stress about having all this extra bedding and such about will make me a bad host. To them It's important to remember to do what is best and comfortable for you so you can be a good host.

Agreed, that wall paper is just scumptious. I'd gladly be shivering in wet knickers in my flat for that lot.

Well this would explain why you don't see any fat Eskimos but I'm not sure I buy it. Being hot makes you fat and being cold get you skinny? So I can save money and lose weight. I don't see how this is a win lose situation. It all sounds on the plus side to me as far as weight issues go. Either way your going to pay heating bills and food bills so why make it more complicated than it already has to be.

I have a right to my opionion medusa12120. I didn't think it was that funny. I don't think I deserve to be call an idiot. So being a "ripoff" is supposed to make it funny? I'm sorry but I was raised to believe that stealing other peoples ideas is still stealing. Plus it doesn't even make sense they could just meet at the exit? Maybe one of us is the mean word you said but I think everyone on AP will agree who that is (not me). I was being sarcastic.

Ha ha @melissah528 I get it. I say that sometimes too like like Elizabeth Lemon from 30Rock. I wish that show was still on I used to have something to look forward to when I would come home at leas one night of the week. I've been trying to watch that show Revolution but I don't think it's very funny usually. It's a show about no power in the world anymore but I think Amy Poehller is on it but doing serious work. Thanks for saying one of my favorite things that I say too sometimes from tv.

The funny of this was medium. It's kind of a ripoff of that movie with George Clooney.

I hate to be the first one to say it but I do think, yes, the letter writting form of art is dead. Let's face it in the age of e-book and iPAD they just know how to tweet and send textual message and know one can spell or use properly the grammar or punctuation. It's really sad for those of use who still appreciate good writting and getting good writting in the mail from real people! Not twitter or FacedBook or spam but a real person! Iget maybe one real letter year maybe usually from a Jehovah Witnessed! What has happened over here! I'm sorry we are losing something else very precious and it really makes me wonder what kind of people will run the world of the future?

Posh! Real really nice. I love the foul mouthed art in the kitchen room. And she is soooo cute too, and that cat just steals the show looking all good and nonchalant all over around there. I think AP should start a series of post call "Cat Tours". It would be soooo great. Nice job.

This is quite nice. Chicago flats are quite posh, and no wonder considering your Prime Minister Obama hails from there. I'd love to visit one day but all the crime reports have a rather reserved about the prospect NYC is probably safer.

I'm sorry but is the persons name really Plain Jane? That sounds pretty made up to me. Other than that I like the transformtation. The soccer ball rug is cool. The moose photograph is a little morbid to me considering that youtube video of the guy getting stepped on to death from that moose but it give the space a sense of danger that I can apprecistate. Nice job.

Just give your guest a space heater (with thermostat) and a fan and they can adjust thier room to the personal preference.

Oh my...LOVE IT! What I "LOVE IT" about this place is that it feels really real like a real place you could actually go to and be real in. It doesn't look like a pretend place, like a place you would see somewhere else all perfect magazines and catalog bits but not really have a real sense of reality. I just really feel like this is a place I would want to go to. In the words of Liz Lemons "I would like to got to that place". Nice work.

This is good. advice. Especially number 1. The only thing I would change about this list is to only do number 1 and to do a lot more of it. When lots of things are out of place I feel it gives your place a real sense of excitement and danger.I think it was Einsteins theory that from chaos comes order and I think that is some of the best design advice for stylists to get over.
