This has happened in my yard for the past 2 years. There are thousands of bees swarming. They collect on a tree branch, surrounding the queen. The clump of bees makes hive shape, but they aren't creating a new hive, but are actually between hives. In about 3-4 days they move on. I was afraid they would move into my attic or crawlspace, but luckily they didn't.

This is my favorite knife too. I was wondering how do you hone or sharpen it? Isn't it a bit different than other knives?

I third the motion for the Staub. The black interior is matte, so it doesn't stain or "crackle" like I have seen in the LC. In addition to the little bumps that come standard it has a ridge on the lid that allows for ice, should you wish to braise at a lower temperature.
I've had my basil colored 5 quart for 4 years and it still looks like new, and I love it!

I use eggs right from the refrigerator, poke a hole in one end with a tack, that I keep nearby just for this purpose. I drop them in gently boiling water, set the timer for 6 minutes, and they come out perfectly soft boiled. Every time.

I thought the set lighting on Jacques Pépin was kind or eerie. Didn't it seem like he had a special spot light? or is it just his hair?

When Oiling isn't enough:
I just refinished some very scuffed up floors (previous owner had dogs) -- sanded, stained and varnish. There are some eco-friendly water based products that are quite common for the final coat. Any professional floor person willknow about this. I noticed a faint smell, but it was gone in a day. I am told the finish will last for 10 years. My floors look fabulous, and they are protected. It's an old house-- 1948, and I was told that this might be the last time that the floors can be sanded, so I went with something durable. The entire process took less than a week, and I am so happy I did it.

I'll keep the linseed oil in mind, should I need it it in the future.

This sounds so good! I'll definitely try this sometime.

Wig3000: I have a 5 quart dutch oven, it does the trick for two of us, and then some, maybe up to 4 servings... The next size up seemed too big, although I may buy an oval one someday, a 7 quart one. But not smaller.

I've already finished the book (I had to return it to the library). I never once tired of her voice, and I found myself wishing to hear more when it was over.

I have both volumes of MTAFC and I use them often - esp vol.1. It's interesting to read about her writing and researching certain chapters of the cookbooks, since I am so familiar with them. The cookbooks, by the way are good reading as well.

I think the photos that stand out for me are the one where she is smoking, caught in the windstorm and the Valentine bathtub shot. They seem to show her quriky side.

Egg whites. Nothing like a mid-week soufflé made possible by the Kitchen Aid.
That, and bread dough.
