Okay, this poster is being talked about everywhere, so here's my two graphic designer cents inviting flames and criticism.

1) Kinda cool concept for showcasing architectural design. Not the best, but not the worst self-promo piece.

2) It doesn't showcase the Grammy Awards AT ALL. It has NOTHING to do with music. It's a Frank Gehry self-promo. And from a graphic design perspective, it's not even that well designed.

"I want to sew a quilt but it probably wouldn't come out right..." -the big excuse I kept using until someone pretty much said -"it's not gonna come out at all until you turn your sewing machine on!"

Confidence is the key to doing anything. (And accepting that imperfection IS perfectly fine.)

Relish trays are just enough to keep my family from killing each other in the pre-dinner fast. Though, there are always battles waged over who has had the most sweet pickles and where the last olive is going.

It it okay to be just slightly offended by the cheesiness of the shoe comment? Aside from that, a good basic intro.

I learned some valuable lessons from both methods as a kid. My parents "allowed" me the opportunity to have a bit of pocket money (like, $1.00 a week in quarters, but it started off with small change as a way to learn counting), and if I went above and beyond the normal call of duty, I had opportunities to raise extra.

I wanted one of those American Girl dolls when they first came out, but if anyone remembers, they weren't cheap then either. The lesson I learned was hard work, patience and saving over spending. I kept track of the amount I saved up, and knew exactly how much time I'd invested in it. In the long run, I value that lesson far more than I valued that doll.

A couple of their basic household accessories are useful when hacked, though, and their designers offer a lot of creative space saving solutions. However... Disposable particle board furniture hurts my soul and clogs up landfills. So no, I don't go to Ikea a lot.

I can't really agree with the color choices . . . it feels very flat right now. Maybe if she'd done it in white-wash colors to accentuate the rustic quality, or done it in high-gloss to make it pop.

Having grown up with dogs, I've come to accept that my property becomes the dog's property when invited into my life. Usually, they grow out of the worst habits by about age two with proper training, but everyday wear (floors and bedding) is something I plan my life around. Being a dog owner is a lifestyle choice, and a lot of first time dog owners I've met don't seem to be prepared for the change. Do a little bit of research, and consider how your lifestyle would have to change to provide for theirs, and decide THEN if you're ready to make that commitment. Not later, when you're dropping them off a the local shelter.
As for letting pets on the furniture and the bed, that's a choice for each owner, but I've never worked up willpower to keep them from snuggling up to me. If I wasn't ready and willing to reciprocate that kind of love and companionship, I would have stuck with tropical fish.

Solar powered garden lights would be an option . . . the only problem would be having to manually turn each one on, but there are alot of options. Some actually come as lanterns (see link below) or you could get cheap garden spikes at any hardware store, and just take the light out of the casing and adjust on your own. It's similar to the "Home Made Sun Jars" project on Instructables. There's tons of hardware to choose from, so you could look around til you found your favorite options.

As someone who has seen and dealt with people who's opinion of "clean" vary (was a dorm mother), I can say that this is actually sage advice, given one exception: When the level of cleanliness in question is actively effecting the health and lifestyle of your roommate.

if you have a serious roach problem: get nitpicky about the dishes in the sink, and taking out the trash.
if you have some serious breathing problems: get nitpicky about air circulation and vent cleaning.
if you have a scary looking staircase: freak out when your roommate leaves shoes at the top of it you can trip on.

Your home is where you feel safe and comfortable. That extends to you AND your roommate. If you're the type that can't learn to compromise, then you should probably find a private room.
