I really want to love it! I don't mind it in fresh salsa or with some sundried tomatoes and garlic baked on top of a salmon.. but I could certainly live without it.

So soapy!

I loved Sophie Dahl's television series, Delicious Miss Dahl. Her cooking style is effortless and the kitchen set was beautiful. I can only imagine how wonderful this recipe collection is!

This book is on my wish list, for sure!

I think this gets said a lot around here, but I have long since stopped trying to make my child play with toys that please my aesthetic sensibilities. In fact the more garish the toy, the more he seems to enjoy it. Bath time toys, right now, are some tub crayons and an empty yogurt container that he LOVES.

So I'm nuts and I like to add a little sweetness to my guac. If tomatoes aren't sweet enough (aka out of season) then I'll add the tiniest pinch of sugar. If I'm feeling crazy, I add quartered grapes instead of tomatoes. It's ridiculously good. Really!

I never liked wine and chocolate together and everyone thinks I'm nuts. Time to print this out and bring it along with me to dinner parties. Oh sweet validation, you feel so good.

Those spoons are really beautiful. The Etsy seller does say that the coloured handle shouldn't come in contact with food though. With the colour going that close to the spoon bit I'd be afraid of getting cookie dough, pasta sauce etc. on the coloured part (hey, I'm a messy cook, what can I say?). I may need to buy them just to display though. Beautiful. Love the Avocado colour she has as well! The creamers are beautiful too.

@JLS988 - I was having troubles with following recipes as the ones I wanted to try out (from the Kitchn and other websites) seemed to always include some sort of dairy element. When I purposely tried to find dairy-free recipes, it seemed like all I could find were recipes that once contained dairy that were modified to include dairy-free ingredients like dairy-free milk etc. rather than just good tasting meals that happened to be dairy free. The anecdote I told in my original post about the cookbook happened a few years ago and I'm doing much better these days steering clear of dairy in meals.

I still happen upon recipes every now and then that call for ridiculous dairy substitutes that don't taste very good and are not very wallet-friendly.

I have entirely too many small appliances that I never use. What can I say? Got scan-happy for our wedding registry..

I'm in love with our Kitchen Aid mixer, it was a gift so we didn't have to shell out the cash. We don't use it all the time, but when we do it's a lifesaver. We usually make baked goods for all of our neighbours come Christmas time and I think we would spend a lot more time mixing with a hand mixer or wooden spoon than we do now! I can whip up a batch of cookies, loaf of bread or pizza dough in minutes. It's awesome.

I'd love to ditch our microwave (it's currently above our stove as the hood fan and I HATE it) but it's the one appliance that gets used daily without fail.

We never use the food processor or immersion blender we have and the hand mixer only gets used if there isn't enough counter space to bring out the Kitchen Aid mixer. Our blender gets used semi-regularly (enough that I couldn't do away with it). And I have to admit that we do own the Baby Bullet (also a gift!), which was awesome to make pureed baby foods and now is sitting in the cupboard waiting for the next baby.

The slow cooker is slowly getting more use and we have a toaster, not a toaster oven (no need for both). With my oven so quick to heat up and the fact that I'm usually cooking for at least 2 people (if not more) I don't see the need for a toaster oven as well.

We have a Nespresso machine which I LOVE. Since my husband doesn't drink coffee, it always felt wasteful making a pot that would just sit there after I was done. With the Nespresso I can make my own single cappuccino. Great fun when we have guests over. I love playing Barista!

I have a stovetop kettle and an electric kettle and although I love the look of our stovetop one, the electric one is so much faster and holds a lot more water, so it gets more use. We do have an insulated tea pot which is really nice to use when making a big batch of tea. It stays warm all day and I can sip away!

No juicer, waffle maker or food dehydrator here. Never felt I needed any of those. I do have a panini press, but it never gets used.

One of my friends purchased most of her appliances second-hand when she moved out of her parents place since she didn't really know what she was going to use most often. After using them for a while she has now started investing in newer or better quality appliances, but only the ones she uses most often. I thought it was a brilliant idea! Especially if you have very little storage space.

Ok, I think it's time to have a garage sale now after doing that inventory!

I'm lactose intolerant (although I still indulge occasionally, but usually only when I'm at home and know I won't have to go anywhere any time soon). I understand the cravings for something cheese-like, but I've found, through many trials, that fake cheese is never going to cut it. I'd much prefer to find a delicious recipe that stand alone than try to replicate lasagna with fake cheese.

I was discouraged with cooking (and eating for that matter) when my lactose intolerance was at its worse. I found a cookbook at my local library that promised delightful meals, totally dairy-free. Unfortunately EVERY SINGLE RECIPE contained a need for some sort of dairy-free alternative: dairy-free milk, dairy-free cheese (of all varieties - cottage, mozza, cheddar), dairy-free yogurt etc. All I was looking for were recipes that were good and just happened to not have any dairy in them! I'm sure my vegan friends can relate.

Is it too much to ask for something tasty that doesn't have a whiff of milk??!

On a side note, our current favourite dairy-free recipe is a Martha Stewart Tostada - http://www.marthastewart.com/340908/grilled-chicken-tostadas. You don't need the sour cream to serve. I like mine with a little hot sauce.

Would a layer of tinfoil work to counteract bpa leaching into the food? I can't seem to find BPA free tin cans and I would love to try this!

While the cake part is a little more difficult to make, I'm totally stealing the "cover throughly with sprinkles" idea from the Purple Ombre Sprinkle Cake: http://www.raspberricupcakes.com/2011/11/purple-ombre-sprinkle-cake.html

I made cupcake stands for my sister's bridal shower. They doubled as cupcake display and party favors. Everyone loved them! They are really easy to make, here's my tutorial: http://dohdums.wordpress.com/2010/08/30/tutorial-individual-cupcake-stands/

I now use mine as a jewellery holder in my bathroom to catch my rings / earrings that I wear daily.

I like these ideas. If it's a startup you are usually working looong hours and end up eating together anyways, just together but separate or someone puts in an order for terrible take out just because it's quick. Having the forethought to put together great lunches or breakfasts for the team would make the group closer and more in tune. Chatting over food is a great way to get to know people!

As far as some of the other comments go about needing to leave because you don't like some of your co-workers - I guess I've been fortunate enough to never be in that situation! I can't imagine being in a place for most of the day with someone that I can't stand. I'd probably quit!

All for reusing and reinventing stuff already around the house, but I really don't like the look of this. I prefer to keep my kitchen towels in a drawer. Most of them are fit for display anyways..
