@decogirl - that poem was awesome. Great find!

What Can I Do or Make With Manteche Cheese?
Good Questions

Came here to say what kissthecook already said. I'd use this if I had two corner cupboards to deal with, leave one alone so I get the extra space on the sides and then have the other one with the drawers.

It's a pretty genius solution though, if you don't mind losing some space.

We don't have a lazy susan in our corner cupboard, just two shelves. I put all of our rarely used large cookware or appliances back there and don't mind getting on my hands and knees to pull it out when needed.

I never could get on board with the craze of arranging books by spine colour, until now! I love the look in this nursery and seeing that kids are likely to look at books for pictures and colours before the words, it makes total sense!

I guess I'm the minority here.. I do not clean as I go. Some dishes may end up in the dishwasher or sink, but not generally on purpose. I do have a kitchen that is on the large size, but this mainly happens because my husband and I have a rule - one person cooks the other person cleans.

Works well for us!

I once swirled my poaching water so vigorously that the yolk separated from the white in the water. True story.

Great idea. I really hate the taste of Hershey's kisses, so I've always stayed away from these cookies. Adding this to my "must try" list!

I don't mind a finely diced shallot in the mix, but most of the time I like my guac simple (no chili, no garlic, no herbs and no tomatoes). I've been known to just mash an avocado add salt and pepper, a little squeeze of lime and call it a day.

If I feel like being fancy, I add some quartered red grapes to the mix. TRUST ME IT'S DELICIOUS!

I know there is nothing scary in mayonnaise. I do. It just makes me gag to think about it in a chocolate cake. I can't even bring myself to do the mayo on the outside of grilled cheese. Something about heating up mayo just grosses me out.

Unless it's a special occasion and we are drinking wine, it's water with every meal. Plain old tap or filtered water, none of this sparkling nonsense.

I echo most of the comments above. I'm much happier to cut down on portion size than to go "light" with any recipe. I eat pretty healthy to begin with (or at least I have for the first 10 days of 2012) so if I indulge every now and then with a bowl of carbonara, I want it to be the real deal.

I much prefer if a recipe tastes good and then happens to be "light" rather than taking a classic and revamping to make it lighter. I find I'm always left unsatisfied.

ok, so I love the idea of having snacks that are 100 calories so I clicked over to the website and there are some great recipes there, but beware the serving sizes are SMALL. Example, the tex-mex pinto bean spread you only get to enjoy a tablespoon of dip. No thanks, I'll spend my 100 calories elsewhere!

For the two that you picked as your favourite - each recipe only allows you to have 2 pieces (two steak bites or two crackers) to get to 100 calories. In fact you would be over the 100 calories by a bit if you ate two of the crackers (56 cal each) I don't know about you, but when there are little bites like these around I can never stop at just two!

Two Ways To Use Strawberries to Make Brownies Festive
12/12/11 4:04 PM

I've worked from home since my son was 6 months old. Looking back it was much easier at first since he was napping more often and could be content to lay on the floor and play with his gym. Now that he's a year old and RUNNING everywhere, it's a little bit more difficult. That being said, we manage and I treasure the fact that I get to be home with my son rather than paying someone to watch him.

A few things that have worked for me:
-make sure you have a safe play area for your child, especially once they are mobile
-try to nail down a consistent schedule of feedings, naps and play time. This may be impossible for the first little bit, we weren't on a schedule with our son until he was about 8 months old (he just refused to follow any sort of schedule before then)
-if baby is cranky, sick, teething etc. don't try and work but take care of your kid instead. If your child is crying or upset it is nearly impossible to be productive. At that point you are neither a good mom or a good employee.
-try and set up at least one day a week where you don't have to have your kid around when you are working. If that means one day a week day care, or a neighbour watches your child, set it up! My mom takes my son once a week and I find with that one day I can usually take care of things that I can't do when he is home (certain meetings with clients, errands for work, anything that requires a vast amount of concentration).
-finally, be prepared to alter your work methods. Your day will be a lot more broken up and you may find you need to work longer hours to get everything done

Hope that helps!

Good Questions

Our Thanksgiving is usually spent about a 5 hour drive away from home. Most of the family makes the trek to spend the weekend away together. This year, however, it felt a bit arduous to drive the long distance (we had all just done virtually the same drive in the summer) so collectively we decided to not partake in this tradition. I thought I'd never see the day that Thanksgiving was spent locally, having travelled for the last 15 years. But that's the great thing about my family, even though they seem steadfast in their traditions, they are happy to make a change when it benefits the whole group!

Perhaps it's just our relationship, but the husband and I have no issues with conversation when we get to go out on that elusive date night. And if stuff about the kid happens to sneak in to our conversation, well then so be it. He happens to be one of our favourite topics, anyways. :)
