I don't have a preference for either but I have a vintage sectional and some small ottomans and a couple chairs that "blend in out in the open" I chose this mix because the sectional is amazing but I don't always want to be sitting right next to everyone either. I just purchased some letterpress drawers to do this exact thing with! I figured it would keep the number of tacky souvenirs down if I only gave myself a small space to display them. Displaying Travel Souvenirs Photos | Apartment Therapy Los Angeles |

I did the same thing for the curtains in our living room--The price of new ones (none of which I really LOVED) was outrageous! DIY Curtains from Multiple Cotton Fabrics Here's Lookin at Me Kid | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

Have to go with Lisa on this--My walls are a mix different things but I love every piece. If I didn't like something, no matter how nicely arranged--I'd see it first every time. Grouping Artwork by Color | Apartment Therapy Boston |

I originally used a fan for air flow in the room because I also wake more clear headed with it. Now I enjoy the noise :| Round Up: White Noise Machines For a Peaceful Night's Sleep | Apartment Therapy DC |

My family tends to wait until the weekend after Thanksgiving for Christmas stuff. Putting the tree up that Saturday is the "thing" for the weekend every year at my mother's house--seriously almost more important than Christmas dinner! I have been married almost 3 years and still have placeholder furniture. We move with the military a lot and I don't want "nice" furniture ruined from constant moving. I have slowly started to replace items with things we want when I find them but I am in no rush to finish. I would rather take the time and spend money on what I want and have it last. My husband, daughter and I are across the country from both of our families. We spend our holidays just the 3 of us and occasionally invite a few of the other soldiers that have no where to go or be for the holidays for a small dinner. I really enjoy our family traditions now and don't find them lonely at all. I think they end up feeling more personal for us. I love the idea--We live in old on-post housing and have huge lengths of cable in the living room and bedrooms(or we can push it back through the wall into the backyard) so I'll have to try something like this! Maisie Maud Broadhead's Cable Art | Apartment Therapy Unplugged |

Our rental sits in a way that we can see into 3 different neighboring homes from our master bedroom. Unfortunately, all the views are direct! The widows have a great tint to them but you can see everything after the sun goes down. We solved the problem by spraying the offending windows with Rustoleum's glass frosting spray--cheap, fast and removable! "Rear Window" Moments in the City? | Apartment Therapy New York |

What a beautiful home! I love the cut-outs on the stairs and the tiles in the bathroom. The way the tile meets the wood in the kitchen area is pretty unique! Never seen that before. APAK's Creative Cottage House Tour | Apartment Therapy San Francisco |

I like the top right as well. I do think you should check out your local carpet stores too. Often it is cheaper to have a piece bound for a rug. Quest for a Lavender Rug: Which One? | Apartment Therapy New York |
