I'd paint that wall black. :)
But that's just me - I'd paint most walls black if I could get away with it!

Beautiful room, beautiful story. I got the biggest smile on my face when I saw your little Superman standing there. My oldest (who is 13 now) practically lived in his Superman and Spiderman costumes when he was between 5-7. Everyday after school the costume would be put on and he'd do everything from eat, play, watch tv and run through the sprinklers with it on! LOVE little boys!

kls2003,

Do a search for "white penny tile" and a lot of options come up. I think I've seen it at my local Home Depot. I love it too!

Absolutely! I always think something old, odd, tarnished or that shows some age and "love" -- something that isn't perfect, isn't shiny and new is so much more interesting in a room than catalog perfect looking room.

I have a suggestion for your sheet problem - (not knowing what size they all are when folded). I had the same issue as my room has a king bed, oldest son has queen and youngest son has double/full bed. I started putting my sheets for my bed in my closet, and storing the boy's sheets in their own rooms (in a closet or one of their drawers if there's room). That way they are right there in the right room and now I have extra room in the hall/linen closet for other stuff.

I had the halo chandelier (I think they sell it now at Anthropology) in my previous home right over my coffee table in the family room. I loved it! Light never seemed to harsh for me. I didn't use the old style Edison bulbs which were too pricey. I used regular round bulbs in a very low wattage. Wish I'd have taken that thing down before listing the house - new owners loved it too and didn't want us to take it. Boo.

I agree that if you are loosing sleep over what color to paint your front door - you might have a little problem. And if you are getting so stressed over the little details and obsessively shopping for months for the perfect mirror - you might have a little problem.

Am I pleased when how I decorate my home is appreciated by others? Sure. But that's not the only reason I work on my home. I'm a design/decorating junkie and do it because making a beautiful, warm home is a passion of mine and I've learned over the years that I am happiest when I have a little project to do (like painting the dining room a new color or recovering dining room chairs or making a headboard). It's how I get my creative juices flowing.

I also agree with this part of the article ... "Bombarded with design updates, blog followers have become hypercritical of innocuous objects they see in online house tours, such as a table lamp or piece of art that is not quite on trend." When I see these hypercritical comments on AT I always cringe. I know we can all get in a snarky mood once in a while and not think when posting, but geez, sometimes the negative comments are so over the top. Lighten up people!

I was prepared to hate this when I saw the original lamp (because it does sort of rock!) but I scrolled down and was surprised! I really like the after too. And if it fits in better with your decor, then why not? It's not like it's some important to history, designed by ______, expensive lamp, right?

I love that this home is grown up and beautiful - tastefully done, but still has enough odd, retro, and unexpected moments to keep it fun. Just the right amount of "quirk". (And I mean that in the best possible way!)

Ye-ouch! I take it most of you were not brought up on "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all".

Note to self - never submit a DIY project to AT (unless you're feeling particularly thick skinned that day!)

I love the gold hardware. Really adds something to the room.

I want to see the whole apartment! When it's all done and decorated, etc. Will you be doing updates and showing us all?

Great job so far!

Books? Could be a good place for a mini library look and would be very hard for the kiddos to climb around/past.

I hide cauliflower puree in mashed potatoes and carrot puree in lots of my tomato based sauces and in taco meat. These are the only two I've tried, but would like to do more. Not only because it ensures that my kids are getting a little bit more nutrients (I also put whole veggies ON the plate that they are required to eat at least 4 bites of) but also because it adds a richness to the taste of what I'm making but doesn't scream CARROTS or CAULIFLOWER! Sauces are smoother, thicker, and just tastier with the added puree!

What DOESN'T he do that drives me crazy? That's a better question. He doesn't load the dishwasher properly, or clean up his toothpaste spit, or EVER put a lid back on tightly, socks on floor every morning, Diet Coke cans that can't seem to find the recycling bin and dripped coffee on white counters everyday.

But after 22 years of marriage, I'm still madly in love with him -- quirks, pet peeves, imperfections and all, and there's an even longer list of wonderful things he does for me and the kids.

(And I'm sure he could give you a long list of my faults too!)
