We have done various squares and rectangles around our house...I know it has helped my husband to make sure in addition to the new color he is painting in the box that he has the old color from outside the box also. He has often used the old color with a tiny brush to touch up the bits of seeping paint.

Something we did this past summer when we painted a new box around our bed is we outlined the box in crown moulding painted the same color...it lessened the need for perfectly clean lines and ended up making the box look far more finished...you can see it here... http://noragriffin.typepad.com/ndg/2009/08/my-entry.html

One of the most useful planning ahead ideas I've implemented is to make a Thanksgiving day timeline. Start with what time you want to serve dinner and work backwards writing down all the tasks that need to be completed. I did this a few years ago and it still comes in handy every Thanksgiving.
