Um, why not use a cloth that you wash with the rest of your cleaning things (other cloths and sponges, gloves etc.), the bath mat and so on after you're done with your weekly routine? Personally, I have a sponge that is designated for only the toilet outside of the inner bowl area and I don't throw it into the washing machine after each use.

This is the same kind of stuff that comes out of little babies, so if you have ecological nappies, you put exactly the same kind of content in the washing machine when taking care of those...

I'd love to have induction. It's the safest of ways to cook and especially gas in comparison is a lot more hazardous out of a health perspective (particles in the air). The only negative aspects are the price and the fact that some pots and pans might not work on a new stove.

Like I said, if I had a choice I'd never use an old-fashioned gas stove. Thanks to those who gave neutral replies.

The fusion of two households meant going through both books and magazines on my part.

Books that I'd never read again are to be sold whereas old interior decoration magazines have been graciously forwarded to family members, who then switch batches, after which they will be transported to a Summer house of our sailing club's. Perfect for rainy days or an afternoon on the beach, even if they are five to ten years old by now, and I know for sure many will read them. The thought of this makes me really happy!

It's only after having participated in the Fall Cure of 2009 that I've realized the beauty of recycling like this - no point in hatching on something I know I'll never flick through again.

Actually that's me asking the question. I was thinking of it out of a green perspective; which product of the two is environmentally friendlier in the long run?

I'm happy that a person like K. Williams is fortunate enough to have such a fine stove that doesn't require manual lighting, but for those of us who live in places where there are ancient stoves this might be interesting to know. By the way, if I had a flat of my own I'd use something completely different, but since I can't choose right now and won't pay for a new stove and certainly won't move to another flat either, this is what I have to live with. Hope you, dear K.W., drop the attitude in future comments.

I'm with Martha on this one. Two white shelves, long but not deep at all and from Ikea (don't know whether they are sold still), for picture frames have already been attached above the bed, as well as two white reading lamps, model Viktor by LampGustaf (Swedish manufacturer), surprisingly reasonably priced.

The headboard itself is still under construction. I have a fabric that was bought years ago on sale, white and kind of boring, so I'll sew a "structure" on it before hanging it on a wood or shower curtain rod (depends on which is cheaper and will produce the most correct length; should be as wide as the bed with bedspread). The rod will have metal endings as a finishing touch to match the lamps.

When I want to switch the fabric, it's done "in a jiffy", and it doesn't have to be a huge expense either. I think wallpaper or the solid wood board would be a lot more work as well, so I'm quite content with this solution.

Now there's a Graduation at Green Cure, but it still feels like something is missing. Maybe a nice round-up in writing too?

Oops, forgot the comment question. What will stay on the top of my mind from this experience is that it's necessary to have some kind of Cure mentality all year round in order to maintain a pleasant state, which doesn't explode completely in your hands; "one item in, another out" for instance.

Most of my projects have been on the smaller side, but they've had a lot of significance all the same, and I wouldn't have been as persistent if the only Curee would have been me. Knowing that there are many others out there pushing on in their respective homes has been crucial and the weekly assignments and articles with comments have been equally important.

Maybe a good time to start would have been the beginning of September? That way we would have finished before Advent.

I'd never hang my boots upside down and I'd never buy anything but a simple plastic tray that can take care of leftover liquid - since the majority was stomped off at the front door where there's also a brush for removing the snow. Once the tray is disgusting enough, it's easy to clean without any sand, pebbles or other to get rid of first.

LOL! I was grinning widely already before having read all the comments, and lo and behold, a Finn has contributed with the first reply - and exactly the way I would have too. I grew up with those thingies being Finnish myself, and have never gotten wet arms from doing the dishes either.

In newer cabinets there's usually a tray with a single hole in the middle of it, collecting all the drops to the middle of the sink. And of course the edges of the tray have been secured with silicone to prevent water from running underneath it to damage the cabinet itself.

The waterfall all over the place in the photo is just ridiculous; I've never seen anyone, not even sloppier people, wash like that.

Lol, labels... Seriously, it makes me automatically think of important people at vernissages, importantly sipping warm white wine. Just do whatever as long as it makes your heart sing!

I'm against any type of card that hasn't been customized; the one bought at the grocery store saying "Thanks" (in response to a wedding gift) then signed with two unreadable names, or the one sent for free with a copy-pasted message field.

This year I intend to send emails with an attachment I've designed myself. Card-sized file with some kind of cheerful holiday greeting. It will probably be a bit faster than handwriting some cards, but on the other hand I wouldn't even send snail mail but to a selected few. What's wrong with customizing and saving a tree in the process? Lame? Not personal enough? Whatever, not in my opinion.

Love theme parties! Once in a while it's great to hop into another persona, knowing it's not my "fault" for acting a bit whimsical or silly even.

I intend to invite a couple of friends over for non-alcohol glögg spiced with vodka (I'd prefer Koskenkorva, but since they don't sell it here in Denmark vodka will do) and served with raisins and almonds, and voilà! Yummy!

@Apartment Therapist: Nice photos and thanks for bringing us the Cure as well!

@STLcolleen: I completely agree with regarding decluttering and rentals in general!

@livc: Um, I know exactly what you mean. Some genius previous tenant has painted the enamel bathtub in my flat, but it happened years ago so now the paint is flaking, and due to really hard water here it's been coloured this orangy grey that is more than appalling to look at. I'm so completely embarrassed, but unless I paint it again or start scraping it off (which might never even be possible to complete) I just have to live with it. My solution is to keep most of the shower curtain put "into action" while I have guests, but you can still see it. What gets to me the most is that it looks sooo dirty - and normally I never have a dirty home. (And no, I don't take baths in it...) As long as your linoleum etc feels clean and there's light, toilet paper, running water and a fresh towel people won't mind! Just invite them over already :)

@GrainSmasher: Great party ideas! And VERY nice tip re Godzilla!!!

Re entertaining in my home: I love having people over as long as I feel that they return the favour once in a while too and it's not just me paying for it (I'm still studying, they are working), cooking and preparing for hours both before and after the event. Some of them aren't always very proactive as you can hear :)

@Mrs. Mack: I was going to propose that the boxes are stored on top of each other along a wall, then covered with a fabric that fits the colour scheme. A DIY solution to make it fall straight down; somehow fasten a curtain rod or similar for instance.

I've found a solution that would keep both my husband and myself happy as far as making the bedroom a sanctuary goes. My current homes - mine and his - are rental flats and there will pass a few years still before we can purchase something of our own, but until then there's no harm in trying to come up with a functional solution.

We're both past 30, so habits are well-known by now, and to be able to accomodate everyday needs in a most efficient way would be wonderful. And by the time we finally have our own flat, we basically want to move in and move on so to speak.

To have one major idea outlined feels good, almost like actually finishing the Cure in the bedroom I imagine. Still have a couple of small details to finish, but so far I'm really pleased because most small "crises" have been solved (and I do tend to stress more about cable chaos than colouring of the bedspread and amount of pillows and such anyway).
