Clean-out-the-fridge-soup. I found 2 big Fennel bulbs in there so I'm making a NYT recipe I just found - Fennel, Garlic and Potato soup. Smells pretty awesome right now.

I disagree with the comment that it looks like it was made to please the parents and not the kid. Sure it's filled with gorgeous things, but why wouldn't a kid enjoy a beautiful mural and super pretty pillows everywhere? I love it! Most kids just want a bed and a spot on the floor to put their toys down and play. I think you've given your kid just that - it's awesome!

My son's room is just about the same size, maybe smaller. I really like how you used the space - good job!

I really like your place - it's a nice change from the mostly MCM inspired stuff that is everywhere (including my own house). Your style is kind of like a modern traditional. Love the coffee table. And I'm super jealous of your walk in closet.

Beautiful set. If the chairs are fibreglass you can spray paint them and use a marine coat on top. We did a whole set of white chairs and they've lasted up to my kids' rough use for over a year now. There's an excellent tutorial over at chairfag (I don't have the address handly... just google chairfag and I'm sure you'll find it!)

We have a different GUS couch - I just wanted to say that we're VERY happy with the quality. 3 1/2 years of use by a family of 5 and it looks and feels fantastic.

Not all Bloggers are professional Writers.

I think of AT as a Blog (officially are you guys a blog?)- and one of the nice things about it is the variety of people that write for this space.

I'd much rather have design savvy non-trained writers who make the odd grammatical error/spelling mistake/use the wrong word instead of someone who just tells a boring design story.

Also I totes need to declutter my house. This post has given me some good ideas. Thanks!

Wooden bowls are one of the sweet things left that seem to still be available at thrift stores without being marked up ridiculously. I have a whole bunch of different shaped, small bowls. Perfect for everything from holding a couple lemons, to nuts, to keys...

To me its no different than a jogging stroller type of setup, is it? I can't see that its any more or less dangerous.

But it looks absolutely ridiculous. I can imagine laughing hard if I saw a woman or man scooting along happily on one of these. Adult scooter riding is pretty goofy!

Mmm, mine is baking in the oven right now and it smells delicious. This is going to be perfect to bring over to my Mom's for a Mother's Day afternoon visit.

I spent many nights trolling around CL looking for a simple sideboard/credenza for our dining room. I would've gladly spent about $300 for something nice. Seemed like there were weeks where every listing was already sold by the time they replied to my email.

Then I went to Value Village - lo and behold I got a very cute teak credenza for $19.99. Made in Denmark. Its veneer, but its got a lovely shape and fits perfect in my dining room.

Value Village usually has total crap furniture, but its never priced high.

I also found an oil painting there about 10 years ago. Paid $19.99 and recently had it valuated by Sotheby's for $6K. True story!

I'm all for fun food, but for me, this is pushing it too much. Although I'm sure that food dye isn't good for you, I'm sure its no worse that whats in regular processed food. I am more concerned with the fact that it doesn't *look* like real food. It looks like candy.

I think its important that our kids' meals look a little more natural - meals are made from the stuff that comes from nature, and not from melted plastic which is what this looks like to me. Its so important that kids appreciate simple, real food and I guess this just goes in the opposite direction of that.

Best post ever!

Funny, we've received a few "kid" cookbooks over the years (the ones, like mentioned earlier - that use a lot of processed ingredients) and it always seems to end up that my kids usually end up picking a cookie recipe from our classic old red & white checkered cookbook that has the pages falling out of it.

The suggestions above are great and will definitely make my gift-giving list. Thanks again!

I LOVE THIS ROOM!

Wow, what a great job you all did. I really like it and can see that it will be a perfect room to grow with your son.

I've just gone through an entire reno of my 8 year old's room and can relate to a child who has "input". Lots of fun, lots of compromises, but a great end result!

We too, have 2 chairs in our bedroom. The only reason we have them there is because they were inherited from the now dead grandparents. They totally don't match the rest of the room, they make it more crowded, and they are major clutter magnets. I have no reason to sit in them - too small for sitting comfortably and reading in. What else would I do there?

BUT over Christmas we de cluttered and the chairs are laundry free. I now use the one on my side to pile my "outfit" on for the next day. 3 days in a row so far, LOL. Maybe this is a new trend for me!

Very nice! You did a great job on the upholstery. The red and white is very fresh looking.

I'm going through completely refinishing the fibreglass on a set of chairs just like this - (have you seen the chairfag tutorial?).

I'm going to have vinyl seats made for my chairs ($50 each... wish I was a handier DIY-er) - I think I've decided on a dark olive colour. The old seat pads are too old and mouldy just to recover, so I need new ones. Anyways, I love the chairs so much, I don't mind paying to have new seats made to last.

Good job on yours - enjoy them!

I gave small houseplants to everyone at my son's 6th birthday... I said they were pirates desert islands. The party was a pirate theme - the loot bags were the plants with a skeleton figure sitting in the dirt, all stuffed into a clear celo bag with a couple of small candies. Most of the kids liked them, some kids were like "WHAT IS THIS?".

Personally I'm so tired of all the junk plastic loot bag crap that the kids bring home... I think the Christmas tree is great.

For next year maybe we'll do mini-terrariums, or a make-your-own mini terrareum.

I so love my gus modern couch but in the 1.5 years i've had it, i had to send it back to the store to have a broken spring fixed (which was covered under warranty - the customer service was very quick and friendly) and now the stitching around the tufting is coming out in one spot. it won't be covered under the warranty... kinda sucks that i already need to do 2 repairs in less than 2 years.
