I would just like to say that I am possibly going to agree to buy a glass cabinet tomorrow that I spotted in a room on an online ad for an apartment to let. The ad said "unfurnished", so I called the agency to ask if the landlord might be interested in selling the cabinet? A long shot. But, hey ho! - the owner called me up this afternoon and already I am excited about going (tomorrow) to check it out!

Regarding homes in general - the nice ones on this site are like Gloria's soul in F Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and the Damned - the living material of which relationships are made (Fitzi says "books" - not "relationships") my point being that a home reflects the lives of those living in it.

I can't wait to move out of my current abode, into a place of my own - with aforementioned cabinet!

Is the cat not afraid of that menacing footstall in the lounge? I trust the cat has never jumped onto the desk and been frightened out of its wits by the hairy keyboard mat?

It's eclectic alright. I like that. But why? Perhaps there's an unnatural sense of a search for historical artifacts around - with the sudden shock of something modern - nothing unique there. What does this say? That modern man is proprietor of all this? Is this supposed to represent the cultured King of his Castle?

Sometimes I am amazed how people opt for uncomfortable furniture - such as wire chairs. Mixing the harsh with furry covers - just seems spiteful.

Still, thumbs up from me.

PS My soon to be ex boyfriend will be relieved to see that it's trendy not to put covers on duvets!

So much upholstery! Perhaps too much in the kitchen - where the cooker appears to make a somewhat surprise appearance amid all those cushions and curtains etc.

You have a dog and a long-haired cat, too. Isn't it tough keeping all that upholstery clean?

Where there is slightly less upholstery, I like your home more. The first desk shot, even the curtain/blind ensemble in the dining room bay window and the bedroom wall with fan - that's rather stunning in its simplicity.

It smacks of loneliness.

Hi - I like your pad. It has a happy, family feel to it. It's not perfect - which is great. I also like the use of yellow. I also like Kartell - I notice you have the odd thing of theirs. I have looked at your blog and was delighted to find some nice, modern poetry on there. Have bookmarked it for further, leisurely reading later on!

I have also tried using the dining table as a desk - it just doesn't work if you have hardware, or use loads of books - which you can't leave permanently there. I brought a desk and chair in and strangely the room feels bigger now that the living space has specific zones for specific purposes.
The "landing space" suggestion (on another page) is also great. We have a chair for our landing space upon which coats are piled, umbrellas hooked, bags places and shoes shoved underneath.

You have v. expensive furniture.

I like your home and think the effort and imagination you put into it is meritorious. I love the yellow lamps and the wall hangings. Your sensitive appreciation of color is evident in these, particularly by the sofa. I also love the picture of the ship in the kitchen and the bare essentialness of that space. It's true that, as others have said, it could appear cold. The sofa and dining area look uninviting and and the nakedness of the floor stares up at you, despite the rugs - and yet, the space looks too small for you to have colored the walls (which I wouldn't have done either) although the floor maybe.. still, I think I can see why you stuck to white - apart from the fact that you rent - there appears to be an underlying element of the aesthetic purist in your design - which I admire.

Italian furniture such as Molteni & Co., Desalto, Cassina etc. is beautiful, but it is priced for the rich and not for the average Italian, whose wages average among the lowest in Europe. PS. Those stainless steel cooktops (Smeg?) spoil very quickly...
