According to Chinese folklore, a red thread connects lovers destined to meet, not parents with adopted children. And the ladybugs part is pure fiction, and has nothing to do with the red thread. The whole ladybugs connected to China adoption started as a joke in the IA China community on a listserv, that they are a good luck charm for people waiting for their referral, after one member had a terrible infestation and was pretending it was a 'sign' that referrals were impending.
