from the looks of it it is the intake for your air conditioning/heating system...so DO NOT PLACE anything in front of it that would limit or block air from circulating back into it unless you want your system running at an optimal level... I have this chair..though the cushion is orange. The chair is incredibly comfortable. The tag on mine is a North Carolina furniture company that I couldn't find much information on, but they're still around. Their website today listed only traditional uninspired styles.
