So very love it. You have a home that feels, honest and timeless and sweet without a hint of cloying. What a treasure!
I have to agree with MichLeMac about how charm can vanish for good when folks decide to take on a renovations. I have a 1952 kitchen which is slowly but certainly falling apart because of some long term water damage. Never the less, I am loathe to renovate because the tile that makes up the integrated drainboard is no longer made.
Sigh.

Thank you for sharing your workspace and your work and your story.
I was drawn in by the artist's name, and I was delighted through and through. I love everything about this interview, work space, and after quick browse at the website, the artist's work. The concert poster are so charming and, wow, quite a great group of musicians!
I will be forcing my own Silas (a soon to be 12 year old) to read it through. I see certain similarities in terms of a quirky style, appreciation of fonts and lettering and, most importantly, an excellent relationship with the providence of the universe.

Absolutely! Hens are funny and cute. Roosters on the other hand are protective and aggressive and their greeting of the dawn is NOT at all neighborly. Roosters are no good for backyard chicken keeping and illegal to have in many hen friendly towns.

Have 'em, love 'em.
We recently rebuilt our compost boxes into the coop area and that my friends, has been revolutionary. Coops have poops and poops are good for compost but not the sort of thing you want to carry around! If you are just getting started a sturdy coop you are able to stand in, compost close by and a couple of small shovels, (mine are from a toy set my kids had years ago) make keeping the coop tidy pretty easy.
Northern California folks have an opportunity to tour a number of coop set ups in Davis, CA in May during the 4th annual Tour De Cluck.

So sweet, and I love the gratitude Ruthie expresses for all of the gifts she has received. I don't know which I enjoyed more, the tour or the survey. AND thank you AT photographer for shooting the spaces rather than a series of vignettes. Seriously -- such a relief.

Pets, kids, and a garden that becomes quite sloggy in the winter, mean that we change out our doormats mats and runners quite regularly. A durable replacement would be most welcome indeed!

I wish I could favorite this one more than once because it is REALLY my super most favorite! The bed and bedding are beyond charming, the colors a joy, and all of the handmade toys say "love". The whole room reminds me of a children's book illustration, and that just makes me smile.
You've done a great job making a delightful place for your daughter to grow and play.

Elfay, I agree with you 100%. I was born and raised in Rochester and love all of the culture (artistic and ethnic)!
I think the weather may put some folks off, but the parks, performing arts, museums, universities, festivals, and of course the Public Market, more than make up for it.
Oh Ra-cha-cha, I still love you.

My town is on the list. We left SF years ago because it was too pricey for us. Now we have our own little slice of heaven in a college town smack dab between SF and Tahoe.
Gotta say, the picture Forbes chose to display of Davis is not the best. A recent NY Times article does a better job!

Great comments on this one. I have to agree with the many style kudos -- girl, you got it going on! I also have to agree with those who have said that this was not really so much a "tour". There were close ups of a dresser(?) which I never saw in a room at all. I can easily assume that the whole place is just as gorgeous as what we saw, but I do miss seeing how the space and furniture relate to one another.

Charming! You did such a lovely job making an itsy, bitsy kitchen both airy and functional! I especially like the pot rack Was it something you made, or is that available for purchase somewhere.

Wonderful choices! The design did a bang up job. I just wish we had been shown more of the space. I would rather see the kitchen, bath and sleeping alcove, than a potted plant or collection of vases.

Texture, color, history and so much fresh artwork. I love the scale of the whole place. I've been seeing quite a few tours lately in which the furniture looks uncomfortable, or the space feels too hard or time stamped to 2012. Not this place. This home has its own time.
Mark, your paintings are wonderful and not surprisingly have the same warmth as your home. I appreciate the celebration of texture and what seems to me, to be a lack of irony. I LOVE IT.
And, thanks AT for shooting the space rather than vignettes!

So lovely! I am curious about your how your kitchen. Do you have just one sink, the one in the bathroom, in the apartment? Or is that little rectangle a sink and the fridge is tucked away someplace?
Just curious...

I agree with many of the previous comments. We loved Paper Bag Princess, and Courdoroy, Astrid Lindgren's Troublemaker Street books, and loads of Cynthia Rylant (though the Henry and Mudge books were kind of tedious for me, but not my little readers). Reading aloud and poring over illustrations is such a sweet way to spend time together. So... I have my own I LONG list of favorites to add from when my now teen/tweens were tots (many of which are still on the shelves in my kid's rooms because they are like old frieds)!
