Love the feminist art and ideas, "Raise boys like girls," and "No more home arts prized like rubies." This house is owned by a very cool woman. Lisa & Piero's English Inspired Los Feliz Home House Tour |

I like everything except the huge blown up picture of the kids above the fireplace and the collection of them in another room. A few colorful paintings bought at local art shows would be more beautiful and complete the house better. Otherwise, the house is great. Shannon's Soothing Mix of Styles House Tour |

My Thanksgiving resolutions: To consume less, and to start making sure that every purchase I make is ethical. I'm going to shop and buy local, buy used before new, buy organic from farmer's markets, and stop buying stuff I don't need or ever shopping for fun. As a web designer, I am going to work only for clients with ethical businesses that benefit society. I am thankful to Occupy Wall Street for making an ethical government and distribution of wealth an issue in public debate again. http://www.occupyoakland.org/2011/11/occupy-as-an-experiment-in-grassroots-democracy Holiday Resolutions: Next Year, I'm Going to _______. |

Let me be more specific. I think you could get away with the couch and upholstered side chair, but I suggest you take out that rug, coffee table, and Danish plastic rocking chair, and buy a dark wood coffee table, an arts and crafts rug (Pottery Barn has a few great ones that are wool, and guaranteed against child labor), and a Mission chair. The dining room table is ok, but the lamp above it should be warmer looking and more of an arts and crafts style. Something like this: http://www.craftsmanhome.com/lighting/micalamp/107Mesa.html. Also, the wall color would complement the wood better if it was a warm earth, putty color. Here are great examples from the Roycroft Inn: http://www.roycroftinn.com. Wow, the bones of your house are amazingly beautiful with that dark wood trim, staircase, built-in bench in the entryway, and cabinets in the dining room. I only regret that you decorated it with Danish Modern furniture. Although I appreciate your obvious love for simplicity, this is a case when that style is not suited to the house at all. It would look much nicer with contemporary but classic furniture in an arts and crafts/bungalow/prairie style, or something that reflects the history of Minneapolis architecture and compliments that dark wood. I like that you have a rug and curtains. It's cold there and those fabrics are necessary. I love the photo of you, and I also love the way you arranged and composed each room using textiles, clothing, boxes, and ceramics in bright and colorful prints. You have a great sense of color and proportion. In your work space, I love the way you put together the 3 orange "bulletin boards" with inspirational colors, fonts, and drawings. The portraits you have collected are funny and tasteful at the same time. Your clean and simple white bedding is also attractive. If you straightened out that furniture arrangement in the living room, your place would be perfect. Drew's Vintage Bohemian View House Tour |

Adventrising is right. I've been laughing since I read their comment. Forget about collections, they are materialistic and collect dust, and in this post sub-prime mortgage economy, none of us can even afford more than an apartment. The owl in the cage and the unhappy little kid smoking the cigarette go together. They both say, "I don't care about other's suffering; I think it looks cool." Now you just need to add a pic of some guy in Guantanamo above a cool looking couch. Then we'll see who comments on the couch. A Pop-Up Apartment at The Yard Showhouse Tour |
