An Otherworldly and Serene Escape in Southern Utah If It's Hip, It's Here | Apartment Therapy San Francisco

We are prepping to paint our home, and I am going white on everything, except the front door and trim just around the front door. Thats gonna be bright orange-y golden yellow....not sure what the name of that color would be. The beadboard under the porch, sky blue.

I love dark colored homes, but with a heavy southern exposure on our 1920's home (w/ no insulation) here in the Southern California sun - we'd just be asking for trouble.

Not that more needs to be said.....but, I say white, white, white....plus warm deep grey and a very few poppy colored accessories....but not too many.

Too bad about the floor though, it doesn't go with the bath....cover it with as large a rug as possible!

I think it'll all end up quite pretty.

If you like the dark gray in your kitchen, go for it. You can always repaint if you hate it.

but, hmmm, on my monitor the cabinet color looks pale yellow in comparison the the white countertops/sink. If the cabinets really do have such a strong yellow undertone, I would consider repainting those a brighter white.

That cream/yellow is throwing me off; the cabinets just don't look like they belong. Perhaps a hardware change, white porcelain/chrome pulls? Perhaps bright white and paint the cabinet detail dark gray as well (the little raised square detail in the center) so, you'll have a dark gray line in on each door face.

I would suggest that if you repaint the cabinets a brighter shade of white, then you could go for either gray.

Either that or go for the 1st one and make sure you pull in some yellow accessories in the kitchen, which could look quite nice.

Good luck!

Aloe by Sherwin-Williams, I have it my own home and just adore it.

It doesn't look like you have any natural light in your bath, and if that's the case, you might want to steer clear of a vibrant green-ey shade that would otherwise be beautiful in a room. I might be wrong, but something in my gut tells me to stay away from it.

We looked, and looked, and layed, and layed.....finally found a 100% natural Talalay Latex mattress encased in a wool/bamboo cover. It is absolutely incredible_ I just melt into bed at night. We paid $2K for a King, which, in the scheme of things isn't so bad. I'm not sure why 100% latex isn't more readily available or discussed more.
no funky offgasing from synthetic materials
latex core has a 30yr (yes 30 YEAR) warranty
choose your density and support, customized per side of the bed
no mites, mildew, allergens
wool cover is fire resistant so no weird chemical sprays are needed
all US made

We looked at FoamSweetFoam.com and flobed.com. Ended up buying from FSF.

I appreciate very much all of the helpful input and creativity! So great to get new takes on this space.

My problem in coming up with a design for the kitchen IS the very dominant granite, it throws me off my game :) - there's so much and its soooo black.

I like the granite because I like the flooring, and lighting, and cabinets less - if that makes sense. I can live with it and integrate it, but do not want to integrate the flooring, for example. Moneys' tight, so I have to pick my battles in the kitchen.

I prefer an eclectic style, just gotta find the balance to pull it all together. Thanks heaps everybody for the fabulous advice. I can't wait to get to work and post some pics.

I try to post pics at my Flickr page as I make progress, take a peek if interested.

I completely agree with ChicagoDesign. I think that the color choices are beautiful, but that the room blends together, all base shades are too similar. I REALLY think a lovely white would be gorgeous in there!

I would take the clutter from the corner, leaving the lamp and table, maybe the plant on the floor. I would hang both pieces of art horizontally, one above the other, centered behind the sofa. I'd then play off the bright colors in the room with a few more accent pieces here and there.

For the dining room, I'd go with the taupe shade of the rug, but maybe a lighter shade. Use heavier wooden curtain rods, raise the rods nearer to the ceiling and extend farther past the ends of the windows for drama. I love the curtain print, and if you can find more of those in a longer length, I would use them. Otherwise I would just go with white. I'd also do this to the sliding glass door(?). Then accesorize the table with white, and a bit of color to unify w/ the living room. Spray the mirror frame white as well, maybe the little accent table too. A centered pendant shade with a cute funky fabric print would be great if you use white curtains.

Your rooms are great! Really clean and fun, and I love that elephant pillow! Can't wait to see what you do with it.
