BEautiful home! I absolutely adore how you have decorated it! I have a question tho about the cow skin rug. My husband and I have been debating getting one for a while as we aren't sure how it holds up to kids (we have two) and how does one clean it every week? Surely not just a vacuum? Any advice??

Is that sofa even an antique? We have no idea if it was purchased in the 80's... which is what it looks like to me. Just because she says grandmother doesn't mean it's really old art deco.I'm just curious as that would help in deciding whether it was as keeper in terms of actual value or is it more sentimental.

Wow! Thanks for all the ideas. And yes - turn of the century from the 1800's into the 1900's. We are fortunate that the owners of our building have had the exterior walls insulated and the windows are all brand new and sealed really well - so I am hoping I won't need to get super heavy drapes. I would hate to block out too much of the natural light and hide the windows. I like the idea of using the same style/fabric type but in slightly different patterns and/or colors - this was the direction I was leaning in so it's great to have so much feedback!! Floor to ceiling... I love that. I've always stopped at the top of the window... I may have to try this!

@MizInformation - I love the idea of half window coverings for our den (which is not pictured) It's north facing and a darker room as a result - and we dont need full covering for privacy in here either.

@Arkay - I don't know what the wood is but I was looking at it yesterday and it has a "burl" like pattern in it.

Great post... some really simple tips to really make a big impact! I really love #4 - truly focusing on the positive of every day can really change your perspective on life. Something good happens everyday and we tend to not notice those moments because angry/upset moments can overshadow them. Thanks for posting this :)

What great timing... we just moved into our new place - the first we picked out together - and we are trying to figure out how to display our travel souvenirs. We usually get art or books when we go somewhere new and I love the idea of stashing them around a console table like the one you pictured.

hmm... I don't see this as minimalist so much as a couple just starting out. There are some nice pieces but it looks more like a 'Before' rather than a finished design that is cleverly pulled together.

Absolutely a necessity! Traditional rockers are nicer in terms of how they look - but the gliders rock easier especially at 2am. I despise the look of gliders and we just can't afford to drop $4,000 on one that I find esthetically appealing - so we just got one that wasn't to expensive or obtrusive knowing it would be tossed or given away in 18-24 months.

I love this room - having been in it I can attest to the coziness. You have done a really amazing job with the whole house. It really is an inspirational transformation!

How do you like that crib? I am looking to order the same one. I love the clean lines and the two-tone white and espresso - although the one online says is white/Amber - which worries me as I am not a light wood fan. I figure worse case scenario, it's nothing a little paint can't fix

I love your home. It's so cozy and full of personality! I really like the use of the loft bed above the crib. I have small 2 bedroom condo and have been wondering what to do in case of baby #2. But I have to ask... where do you keep all the toys? in the closet?

When I was in art school - I did a painting that was a poem I had written and my painting professor said to me "Well that's not really a painting..." I have had that canvas in storage for years now.. maybe I will revisit it.

Tanya - I think you are going to be stuck with some sort of fence (wood, wrought iron, chain link, etc). Our lovely state also requires that a fence be around pools for safety reasons. The city will fine you daily if you remove it and they find out until one is put back in to place. Maybe you can disguise the fence with a vine like plants that will create a natural looking fence? If I remember correctly - do you have roses growing in them now? maybe add some more?

As for the gravel around the pool - I think maybe grass (as previously suggested) or replace it with a warm, golden pea stone and maybe add big urns filled with over flowing flowers and greenery. and maybe you can add some dracena grass to the the pots to give them a more tropical feel.
