How about hammered finish aluminum mini- or micro-blinds. Easy-care, won't show hairspray or steam spots, and not very expensive at all for custom sizes (especially for small bathroom windows).

I've been using the 3M hooks for years - I don't rent but I like rearranging. I have followed the directions exactly every time, even when I've been impatient to hang things, and so far they've never left a mark on the walls, taken off any paint, or come unstuck. All my walls are painted (flat enamel except satin in kitchen/bath) drywall without much texture, so that's probably the ideal surface.
Re comments on expense - once you're hooked (ha) on these, they'll seem worth it. Walgreens has a BOGO on them every now and then.

I think the cabinets and countertop are beautiful. It's great that they were able to find someone to do this. At the Joinery link, there's a picture of these cabinets with a concrete countertop, and that looks really good too.

Favorite so far - love the room. Everything seems so well-placed and comfortable (including the cat!)

I've ordered a lot from foamorder.com. Their customer service is great, and every custom-size and custom-firm piece arrived quickly and exactly as ordered. One thing to keep in mind is to order the bolsters just a little shorter overall than the back of your bed; I didn't do this for my daybed and by the time the custom covers were put on, they extended past the edge on both sides. The upholstery fabric we used was textured and kind of thick, so that made a difference.

sassifrassi and kelleyk - check out concetto by caesarstone, that might be similar enough to work. I've never seen it in person, but some of the patterns look really nice on the website.

I haven't kept my old magazines, but reading these comments makes me wish I still had a few of them.

greenish, I am reminded of my Love's Baby Soft spray (Soft'll get 'em every time) and my giant peach-flavor lip-smacker. I remember getting carsick because I couldn't wait to read the new Seventeen issue until I got home (riding in the back seat, of course - this was way before I could drive).

And ec05, when one of my creems was confiscated in algebra class I had to explain to my teacher that I had every single copy saved and it would be as if he'd kept a National Geographic! (He gave it back at the end of the term.)

Maybe I'll tuck away a few special issues of my current magazines - and I'll definitely hang on to the handful of Dominos that didn't end up in the waiting room at work.

The removable cover is a nice feature, though I'd prefer a machine washable fabric, and the option to purchase additional covers. As others have commented, the size might be a problem. Daybeds often are used in rooms with limited space, so the 48" frame depth may not be practical - that's even deeper than most regular sofas.

I have the west elm Tillary, which is kind of a daybed too, since twin sheets fit the base. I like it, but some guests have a hard time figuring out how to sit without scooting the bolsters off the back.

It's nice that we have more choices now, anyway - years ago when I looked for daybeds they were mostly black metal powdercoat tubes or the white wrought-iron-look leaves and flowers!

This is $120 (half-price) and I think it would look nice with your chairs, but I agree with others that a table with (table) lamp might be more practical.

What is the kitchen floor? (It looks a lot like a wood-look ceramic tile I've been considering.)
