This is a really interesting assignment — I'm noticing that I'm very much struggling to do the "visioning" part of the cure. Still have not picked out inspirational photos. Still have not sat for 10 minutes ... I think I need to just do these things.

But, I'm intrigued noticing the resistance to actually writing down what I want. Giving it space to take shape and also aspiring a little bit ...

Hmmmmm ....

Day 10: Make List of Top 6 Home Needs
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/29/10 12:14 PM

Finally bought some flowers last night :-) A bouquet of mixed poms ... gorgeous autumn colors. Now, tonight I'll do the distribution — I'm thinking the weekly "buy flowers" might be a good prompt to water any living plants, too ... (note to self to take pity on the poor dying plants in our basement!!)

The 20/20 Home Cure

I did it! I cooked last night — little help from my hubby :-) We had smoky garlic beef short ribs in the crockpot. OH MY!! DELISH!! Much, much better than the restaurant takeout I was thinking of originally. These were accompanied by sweet potatoes and braised garlicky purple cabbage. All so good!!

I also made pumpkin bars in cupcake form and brought them to work today :-)

So, yay for cooking. That was actually really great — and I'm excited to have leftovers for lunch!

Day 9: Find a New Recipe and Cook Tonight!
The 20/20 Home Cure

Hmmm ... I just put the other headphone in and could hear Max just fine. Don't know how it works without headphones, though. Love the videos!!

So, Maxwell, you totally changed the course of my evening (and possibly my diet!!) this week — after the gym, I was planning to take my iphone to the apple store and then grab some takeout on the way home ... this, after eating sort of badly all week! Last night was stuffed crust pizza.

Instead, I decided to think about how I could do my assignment. And, figured out we had a new recipe all made up in the freezer — Smoky Beef Short Ribs that we put together at this meal assembly chain called Let's Dish. And, I have a couple veggies that I'll do in some new way :-) Also I'll make pumpkin bars to take to work! FUN!

Thanks for the nudge.

The 20/20 Home Cure

I enlisted my hubby to help do a 20-minute clean last night. He worked in our kitchen/living room and I worked in our main bathroom. Got a LOT done in 20!! I gave the bathroom a lovely surface clean, swished and swiped the toilet, shook the rugs, and even mopped the floors. Also did the kitchen floor with the mop and all dishes are put away or in the dishwasher. Then I had to dash to a little evening meeting while dinner cooked — hubby was going to vacuum to complete our upstairs floor clean. Instead, he got inspired (!!!!) and pulled out our carpet cleaner (!!!) and did the traffic patterns (!!!!!!!!) ... carpet looks LOVELY!!! Can you tell I'm excited? LOL

The 20/20 Home Cure

The sound issue someone mentioned above — I have found that when I listen on headphones, I can hear Maxwell in one ear and music in the other ... so, if I put the wrong headphone in ... no Maxwell, just music. I like both!! But, it took me a few minutes to figure out that there were apparently two layers/tracks of audio.

Maybe that little suggestion will help?

Day 7: Buy Flowers & Sit for 10
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/27/10 11:09 AM

That was an absolutely delightful post Maxwell! I love love love the way you see the world. Totally inspiring — I hadn't even thought of going to nature this time of year for my weekly flowers ... I might even go to my own garden and pull some remnants ... our rose bush is in full bloom right now, and here in the midwest, crazy winds and (ACK) snow is predicted this week?! So ... perhaps I'll cut a few of the best blossoms and bring them inside. And, there are the most beautiful leaves, even though peak color has past.

The 20/20 Home Cure

10/26/10 12:35 PM

I've been working on this and finding that I've already pared down a lot (a purge I did in the summer months!) ... areas for improvement are some still full cupboards, cluttered countertops, and the dreaded junk drawer. I may do away with that one all together. Keep tools only ... a couple of our regular-use cupboards could use a bit of a maintenance tidy. Got rid of a couple of things. I am struggling to clean off this greasy, sticky film on some cupboards. Vinegar didn't touch it. I'm about to try Goo Gone ... any other thoughts?

Kitchen Cure Week 2: Clean Out Tools & Gadgets
Fall 2010 Kitchen Cure

10/25/10 11:30 AM

I started with the fridge, then did the pantries and spices, finished the freezer last week, and even got the under-the-sink cleaning area done. All of that was a HUGE job! But, kitchen has felt so much more functional since then. And, I find myself trying to maintain it. Also, not buying more than I can use!!

Kitchen Cure Check-In Week 1: Is Your Fridge Clean Yet?
Fall 2010 Kitchen Cure

10/25/10 11:15 AM

Ahhh ... it is hard to get started with the cleaning. Especially knowing that I'll be doing mine after work and the gym and some other stuff. But, I can do 20 minutes. And, I think I will do our downstairs, since we just moved some stuff around down there ... and I won't do it for Monkey ... I'll be doing it for Lily the bunny :-)

Day 6: Clean One Room
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/25/10 10:59 AM

I've set up an outbox ... And have some easy-to-let-go-of things already in it from the Kitchen Cure. Maybe just emptying that will be enough for a start ...

Day 4: Remove One Item and Set Up Outbox
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/23/10 5:48 AM

I was thinking this would be the easiest assignment -- but I've been avoiding all week. I'll make it my goal for the weekend. Someone mentioned going through stuff they've clipped. And I think I'll start there, too.

Day 3: Find Inspirational Photos For Your Home
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/23/10 5:45 AM

Oh! And found some cleaners I wasn't sure about keeping v. tossing. So I set them out to test run them. Which also feels like getting something new!

Day 5: Buy or Replenish One Eco Cleaner
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/23/10 5:39 AM

Completed a declutter of our under-the-sink cleaning area. Lots of specialized cleaners we haven't used a lot. And we already have some nice green stuff -- Method and Mrs. Meyers. I'm not going to buy anything right now since we have duplicates. My thought is just knowing about what we already have and having it arranged so it is accessible is BETTER than a trip to the store!! I did merge some half-used 7th Gen dish soap duplicates and will be making very good use of those!

Day 5: Buy or Replenish One Eco Cleaner
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/23/10 5:37 AM

Very much enjoying the new 20/20 format even though I'm a couple days behind. I will be able to catch up quickly!!!

Though I do love the idea of staggering home and kitchen cures ... Would be so lovely to focus on each :-) whatever is great though -- having this cool free thing is a total gift!

Wide awake at 3 am. Think I'll go do my assignment!

Day 5: Buy or Replenish One Eco Cleaner
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/23/10 4:15 AM

I LOVE how bite-sized this cure is. And, I LOVE the videos. Thanks AT!!

To respond to some earlier stuff, yeah, vacuuming is basic. And, maybe some people vacuum each and every day, but not everyone does. And, the idea is to engage with our home to beautify it in little bites ... love this!

I think Maxwell said if people are hungry for more, there is always the original cure in the AT book.

And, there IS the Kitchen Cure which is hardcore and not-at-all bite-sized — I spent most of my weekend doing the week 1 assignment! And, I'm still not done :-)

Mostly just sending up a big, giant YAY for the new format :-)

Day 1: Clean One Room
The 20/20 Home Cure

10/18/10 1:21 PM

So, tried doing the first assignment for the Kitchen Cure ... feels TOO BIG!! Intimidating. Need some ideas for bite-size missions ....

Reading Sara Kate's post, I thought that maybe doing a hunt for "bad" food ... moldy, expired, etc. ... might be one.

Did a glimpse in the spice cupboard. Tidied it. But, I'm really not sure how to par down any more, even though I've got more spices than I want/need. Any spice cabinet wisdom? Thanks!
