I'd have to say, having a good kitchen timer is essential for me, since I don't have a microwave, and my oven timer isn't digital. I waited to buy one that would have a long timing range, multiple settings, a loud alarm, and large display.

When I found this one at a kitchen shop in Vancouver, I knew I'd found it. It has two count down timers and one count up, plus the time, all usable/viewable at the same time, and times up to 20 hours.

I agree, ginger is important! As a sweetener, I like to use condensed milk.

Yup, these things are awesome. My mum bought one this year for her plum and apple trees. At first I thought it was gimmicky, but then I tried it. Very easy to use and quick. Highly recommended.

This has me thinking about experimenting with my homemade yogurt..adding some hazelnut extract perhaps. Has anyone tried this?

The only thing I've added in the past were some fresh blueberries at the bottom..which turned out well.

I just pour my mixed yogurt into large mason jars I've preheated with water and stick them in the oven with the light turned on for 6 hours or so.

I gave up my utility drawer in my kitchen to store my spices in this past fall.
I used 250 ml Mason jars, the perfect size for the bags of spices that I usually buy. The drawer is pretty heavy, but I love it. I've added a few more since this picture was taken. I'm planning on moving in a few months, so I might try out the magnetic mounting then.

I clearly remember the day that my mother sent me to school with warm, buttered sourdough crumpets in tinfoil and eating them secretly during my first class. Heaven!

Lots of great seasoning tips here, thanks!

The one method variation I didn't see was one my brother in law taught me. Instead of transferring the drippings to another pot, remove the turkey from the roasting pan and tent it over a separate plat. Place the roasting pan over stove elements and make the gravy directly in the pan, starting with adding the flour and browning it. Then I usually add some white wine with whatever other liquid- vegetable cooking water, stock, etc.

One less pot to clean and no drippings left behind!

Wonderful interview, I especially like the shelves!

Oneformybaby- I took a long time figuring out spice jars that fit my needs. I finally decided a few months ago to use 250 ml wide canning jars like these:

and this is my spice drawer...
http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=9821323&l=70f96fd146&id=705970626

I'm using the two-piece lids that come with them, but you could also use these plastic one piece ones if the two-piece ones are too fussy..

Now I find myself using different size mason jars for storing a lot of things, ie., broth, soaking beans, storing dry beans, salt, nuts, popcorn kernels, you name it! I love how clean they are and beautiful they look. And easy enough to come by and expand the collection whenever necessary.

I learned this one from my boyfriend: Listen for the cashier beeping the items through the fastest. Also note the age of the customers in lineup, as the elderly often take a lot longer to pay.

Of course, still considering the relative length of line up and quantity of items.

This is the one i've been using lately- it's super easy and it's my aunt's. I usually end up marinating it for a few hours. You can heat it on the stove if you don't have a microwave, which is what I do.

3 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
2 cloves of garlic, peeled and minced
Salt
Pepper
Ground allspice

Combine ingredients in a glass mixing cup or a stainless steel saucepan and bring to a boil. Heat for about one minute (I do 1 minute at power level 8 in the microwave). Pour over the meat (chicken, beef or pork) and let sit for 15 minutes or longer. Broil, BBQ, Roast or fry the meat. Baste with marinade until cooked. Serve marinade as a sauce.
